Redbridge picked up 3 points as they beat Cray Wanderers 4-1 with our goals from Shane Wallace (2), Vinny Murphy and a Mark Nougher penalty.

Redbridge picked up their first away win of the season and a much needed 3 points as they defeated 10 man Cray Wanderers.

It was the first time the two sides had met in the Ryman League and with both sides at the wrong end of the table they were desperate to get the win.

The home side were certainly quicker out the blocks and Redbridge had keeper Jack Avery to thank for some vital saves. It was the young keeper s first match of the season after regular goalkeeper Mark Parker sustained an injury in the last match.

Against the run of play and with their first attempt the Motormen took the lead, Mark Nougher broke free through the middle and his weighted pass fell into the path of Shane Wallace who seeing goalkeeper Bechet off his line delightfully floated the ball over him from 30 yards out.

Shortly after and Redbridge could have been two ahead after a good cross in found Chinedu McKenzie who caught it sweetly on the volley but Bechet pulled off a good save. Again Cray came back through the lively Kery Kedze but he dragged his effort wide.

Again the away side carved out another good opportunity this time when a Shane Wallace ball found the unmarked McKenzie who headed straight into the arms of Bechet.

Moments before the half ended into injury time Redbridge did get a second goal and what a strike it was. A free kick was awarded some 20 yards out and Vinny Murphy stepped up with just one thing on his mind. The next thing the ball was in the back of the net with Bechet left grasping at thin air.

Into the second half and Cray did eventually pulled a goal back after a dangerous free kick was floated in and Max Fitzgerald was on hand to volley home.

Redbridge were perhaps worried knowing how they have thrown away leads in recent matches but any thoughts of that were extinguished within a minute when Wallace latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted the ball into an empty net to restore the two goal advantage.

The home side s night then went from bad to worse after their goal scorer received a red card for an awful lunge on Murphy. Redbridge started to take advantage of the extra man and Brian Moses had a great chance to make it four but his lob just cleared the crossbar.

However soon after it was to be four when Moses was upended in the box and Mark Nougher stepped up to score the resulting penalty. Cray were even denied a late second goal when Avery made a spectacular one handed save from Shane Welford close range effort.

The whistle soon blew and the Motormen celebrated just their second league win of the campaign and will look to continue that form when they face Maldon & Tiptree at the Oakside on Saturday.
