Redridge Dragged Back into Relegation Danger

Redbridge entertained Brightlingsea Regent looking for the points to move away from relegation. The main issue of late has been in finding the net as they have now gone 360 minutes without scoring a goal.

It was a terrible start as it took just 5 minutes for the away side to take the lead when Oliver Canfer fired in a powerful effort beating Mark Parker.

Most of the home side's play came through wide man Abbs Thompson and he had their best chance when his shot dragged just wide of the post.

It was to prove a costly miss as Brightlingsea then doubled their advantage when a through ball fell to Jake Gordon who looked up to see Parker off his line and lobbed a delightful chip over him into an empty net.

As the 1st half neared its end Redbridge Captain Liam Thomas saw his header clawed away to safety by Andrew Plummer.

Redbridge certainly required a strong start to the 2nd half and got it when Mark Nougher pulled a goal back beating Plummer at his near post with a fierce drive.

The goal immediately saw Redbridge up the tempo as they went in search of an equaliser and wasted a good chance when fine work out wide by Thompson saw the ball fall to Kacey Adams but he volleyed his effort wide.

Against the run of play the two goal lead was restored when Ben Newson found himself in acres of space and had the simple task of lifting the ball over the stranded Parker.

Redbridge had no real reply and further misery was then placed upon them when two late goals through Jake Gordon and finally substitute Jordan Heath who killed the match off.

The Motormen now travel to Barkingside on Bank Holiday Monday for a massive six pointer they dare not lose.
