Motormen Into London Senior Cup Semi Finals

Adam Silver27 Jan 2016 - 13:22

Redbridge are into the London Senior Cup Semi Finals after a 3-2 win over Wingate & Finchley, Our goals came from Coxi-Sebastao, Drake and Gent.

Ryman North Redbridge shocked Ryman Premier side Wingate & Finchley with 3 first half goals to progress into the semi-finals of the London Senior Cup.

The home side started well enough with their recent signing Alex Addai looking lively and it was he who had the first effort when he fired over from a corner.

That was shortly followed by a Joe Sharpe cross finding the head of Jack Read but his attempt landed safely into the arms of Redbridge keeper Callum Chafer.

The first chance for the away side came after good work out wide by Joe Gent saw his cross fall at the feet of striker William Drake but he failed to trouble Jack Metcalfe.

Wingate once again came forward and once again it was Addai who found space out on the right before crossing for Alfie Bartam who really should have done better from close range.

They were made to pay for that miss as soon after Redbridge opened the scoring when a passing move saw the ball end up with Reside Coxi-Sebastfao who rifled home leaving Metcalfe no chance.

The home side almost immediately hit back when after pinball in the box the ball finally fell into the grateful arms of Chafer.

The away side shortly doubled their advantage after a superb through ball from Paulius Ditkevicius found Jay Knight who held off his marker and slotted home.

Within a minute it was three as a loose ball was picked up by Gent who went past the outrushing Metcalfe and simply passed the ball into the net.

The home side were shocked by those two quick goals however had a good chance to pull one back but a Bartam cross just evaded Read.

The 2nd period began with both sides having good free kick efforts and as expected although the home side were having most of the play they were unable to really trouble the Redbridge back line.

The best chance fell to substitute Tommy Tejan -Sie who saw his effort saved by the legs of Chafer.

With both sides now having made all their changes it was Wingate who looked most likely to grab the next goal and they did get a lifeline when Tarik Moore -Azille scored from close range.

They soon after got another goal back when Redbridge failed to clear a corner and sub Billy Healey scored.

From looking in a comfortable position the away side were now hanging on for the win and although Wingate pushed forward for the equaliser it failed to come.

The Motormen held out for the win and now move into the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since the 2003/04 season where they will host either Hendon or Croydon.
