Trophy Win is Taylor Made

Adam Dennehey2 Oct 2010 - 23:34

Redbridge bounced back after a testing couple of days off the pitch with a tremendous performance on the pitch to defeat Chatham Town 2-1.

It was a much needed win for the Motormen which sees them through to the next round where they are due to travel to Ryman Premier side Horsham in 2 weeks time.

Managing Redbridge this afternoon after being announced as the club's permanent manager was Kris Taylor, who until now had been Joint-manager of the club alongisde Dave Ross. It was quite a turnaround for Taylor, who earlier in the week had stepped down to being first team coach of the team following Ross's depature in his role as joint-manager.

The club had been set to announce former Ilford manager Kevin Durrant as the sole-manager of the team, but negotiations broke down paving the way for Taylor to step up as the club's new manager after discussions with club chairman Dan Holloway.

Redbridge started the game well with their frontline of Alex Read, Kevin McLeod and Anton Agdomar causing Chatham's defence all kind of problems. First Agdomar brilliantly held up the ball for his strike partner Read, who cut inside brilliantly forcing a great save from James Tedder in goal for the visitors.

Not long after that Agdomar linked up well with Kevin McLeod who sent in a brilliant ball into the box with the outside of his foot which narrowly missed Read free at the back post. All this attacking play within the opening 15 minutes!

Despite the bright start by the Motormen, they were forced to adjust their defence following an injury to skipper Simon Peddie, by bringing on new recruit Nathan Fletcher. With Fletcher minutes into the game, Chatham almost took the lead following a counter attacking move.

A good ball into the box by Andy Hogg was headed on by Joe Fuller straight into Gary Ward's path free in the penalty area. With only Lee Newcomb to beat in goal, Chatham's skipper sliced his shot wide much to the relief of the home support.

Moments before half time Redbridge almost took the lead on two occasions. First Tom Stephen's cross into the box clipped the top of the bar after getting abit of help from the wind before Julian Ashby couldn't quite convert a low Agdomar cross into the box.

Taylor made a key change after time by brinigng on the experienced forward Julian Edwards on in place of Agdomar. It was no fault on Agdomar's part as the forward had worked his socks off in the first half.

Chatham started the second half well and it was only due to the woodwork and moments of brilliance from Newcomb in goal, which stopped them from taking the lead. First Brad Potter saw his header hit the bar from a corner before Newcomb stunningly tipped a Fuller shot from outside the box over the bar.

Not long after though, Redbridge took the lead through the combination of creativity and clever finishing. McLeod picked up the ball out wide and put in a peach of a ball into the box directed for Read.

The ball split the defence brilliantly and just as the ball had looked to get away from his feet, Read cleverly tucked the ball under Tedder in goal with the ball just trickling it's way over the line. It was just what Read derserved and he celebrated in style making his way over to McLeod in congratuation of the pass.

Chatham though fought back and a moment of brilliance from Newcomb not only denied them getting an equaliser but proved to be the turning point of the match. Somehow Newcomb managed to save a Jason Barton header inside the six-yard box following a corner, which was destined for the bottom right hand corner. A great save from the keeper, which was rightly applauded by everyone in the ground.

It was the turning point in the match as moments later Redbridge doubled the lead, on virtually their next attack. Siezing on a loose ball Ashby presented the ball to McLeod, who cleverly chipped the ball into space perfectly for Read to run in on goal. Read cleverly rounded Tedder to score his second of the game and fourth of the season to seal the game for the Motormen.

Chatham to their credit didn't give up and forced a corner a minute of the game and got a consolation when Lee Maskell tapped home after a Newcomb save from a close range header.

It was too late for the visitors as Taylor's side held on in the four minutes of injury time for a throughly derserved win. More performances like this in the league will certainly see Redbridge move clear of the relegation zone.
