Motormen Pick up First Win of Season

Adam Silver21 Aug 2016 - 10:36

Redbridge recorded their first 3 points of the season beating Haringey & Waltham F.C.4-1.

The Motormen hosted bottom side Haringey & Waltham as they went in search of their first 3 points of the season.

The home side took just 3 minutes to take the lead when a good run by Leon Opok out on the right wing saw his cross find the unmarked Nathan Gordon who had the simple task of heading into the back of the net. It was his first goal since returning to the club after previously being part of the squad involved in our famous FA Cup run of 2011/12.

Gordon was looking dangerous and came close to doubling his tally when he went on a great solo run but his effort went just over the bar.

The chances were coming thick and fast for the home side and next up was Adam Hunt who was through on goal and with just Robert Fanella in goal to beat his effort lacked any real conviction and went straight into the keeper’s fortunate arms.

Haringey finally had an attempt at goal when a shot from Joseph Akwaboa was cleared off the line by a Redbridge defender.

Fanella then made a great double save to deny Gordon yet again from a Hunt free kick and them moments later Gordon spurned a chance when he passed the ball across the goal although a shot seemed the better option and another chance therefore came and went.

David Sangolo was next to have an effort but yet again Fanella was proving to be difficult to beat as he made another good stop. Just before the half time break however Redbridge were awarded a penalty after a Haringey defender handled in the box, up stepped captain Adam Hunt who scored.

The 2nd half started slower for the home side as they allowed their opponents possession and were almost made to pay when Haringey’s best player and captain Jordan Sanderson simply waltzed through the Redbridge defence but somehow managed to put his effort wide.

This woke up the Motormen and a long throw was headed down by Gordon to Sangolo who saw his shot parried wide , a long range Hunt effort was then also well saved. The away side scored an unlikely goal when a loose ball fell to substitute Glenn Nightingale who poked home past Jake Mernaga who was making his Redbridge debut.

The home side however soon restored their two goal advantage when Joel Griffiths had a double header cleared from the line however the 2nd attempt was adjudged to have crossed the line by the officials and the goal was given.

With just a minute to go Redbridge substitute Jacob Dingii reacted first to a floating free kick and looped his header into the back of the net to seal a comfortable home win.
