The Motormen hosted Tower Hamlets as the two sides met for the first ever time in a competitive fixture. Only 1 position and point separated the sides in the table and the home side were looking to get back to winning ways after 3 consecutive league defeats.
An early free kick floated in from Redbridge captain Adam Hunt evaded everyone and drifted just wide before Tower Hamlets attacked through Kerfala Korouma released Diawara Ibrahmia whose shot from distance was comfortably held by Jake Mernagh.
The home side first attack of note ended with a goal when a through ball found Jay Knight in space and he had the simple task of waltzing around Joe Biscoe in goal before tapping into an empty net after just 6 minutes.
The away side then pushed up field and Joel Ramos tested Mernagh from distance but the Redbridge goalkeeper was equal to the effort.
A great chance followed for Knight to double his and his sides lead when good work by David Sangolo out on the left wing saw him cut inside and find the striker who beat his marker and seemed destined to score but drilled his effort wide of the left hand post.
The match was becoming very open as both sides looked to get forward with further chances for both sides however the next goal came to the home side.
A Hunt free kick found Ore Odutola at the back post who was denied by Biscoe who pushed the ball out for a corner which was swung finding Sean Kettle who thumped his header home.
Redbridge had a great chance to extend their lead when Aron Gordon went through on goal but his effort lacked power however they never had to wait long as it soon became 3-0. A lovely cross field ball from Knight found the run of David Sangolo and as the keeper ran out to clear the danger the midfielder beat him to the ball and rolled his effort home into an empty net.
A neat passing move between Aron Gordon and substitute Oscar Williams required Biscoe to pull off a good save for Tower Hamlets who then had their best chance of the game after Ruben Nasco fired his effort goal bound which was well turned away by Mernagh.
Although the home side had a 3 goal lead they became somewhat complacent as the away side looked to put pressure on them which resulted in pulling a goal back when a patient build up eventually found Kaman Asidio who stepped inside his man and saw his powerful shot beat Mernagh. Joel Ramos then headed a good chance wide from a Diawara Ibrahima cross.
The away side started the 2nd half stronger when captain Ade Oreniake had a great effort to reduce the deficit as he turned in the box but fired his shot wide of a relived Mernagh in goal.
Knight had two good opportunities to score before a through ball released Oscar Williams and he danced around Biscoe to fire home. Knight and Sangolo teamed up well together all game and they did so once again as only the post saved Hamlets from conceding yet again.
As in the first half the game switched from end to end as it was not the away side who pushed forward and were awarded a penalty when Williams brought down substitute Landin Joao. Up stepped Korouma who tried to outsmart Mernagh with the chip but ended up shooting wide, It certainly was not the type of penalty to be taken when your side are losing a match.
Hamlets headed never dropped and they continued to come at Redbridge as a free kick was floated in and fell at the feet of O'Neale Rowe who found himself unmarked but turned and shot his effort over.
The same played soon made up for his earlier miss when he latched onto a through ball and fired home leaving Mernagh no chance.
That was not to be the end of the scoring as in the final minutes Redbridge went back up the other end and scored again when substitute Jacob Dingli was sent clear and scored from close range.
