Redbridge hit for SIX

Adam Silver8 Jan 2017 - 21:34

Redbridge were involved in yet another high scoring match but unfortunately were on the wrong end of a 6-3 score line.

Redbridge returned to action after the Christmas/New year break as they hosted Sawbridgeworth Town.

There was a great early chance for the away side within the first 30 seconds when ex Redbridge striker Gavin Cockman found Louis Bristow who stabbed his shot goalbound but Jake Mernagh was able to push the ball out wide for a corner.

The early pressure continued from Sawbridgeworth and it soon resulted in the opening goal when the ball was misjuged by a Redbridge defender allowing Toby Cleaver in and he made no mistake firing past a stranded Mernagh.

The same player then had another chance but headed over when unmarked from a long throw in.

Redbridge managed to equalised with their first chance of the game when good work down the wing saw Joe Gent ran onto a ball beating the offside trap and although his intial cross was cleared the loose ball fell back to him and he looked up and squared to Jacob Dingli who made no mistake from inside the penalty box.

A couple of good chances came for Sawbridgeworth through Cleaver and Joe Wright but it was the home side who scored the next goal.

Samuel Phillips played a lovey ball over the top to Dingli who controlled before he was brought down to the ground by a defender, from the resulting penalty captain Adam Hunt stepped up to slot home. It was a lead they managed to hold onto going into the break.

A very early chance in the 2nd period for the home side when Reside Coxi Sebastfao was through on goal but he was unable to beat Marco Tuzzeo who was able to make the save.

Sawbridgeworth did get themselves back on level terms shortly after when the Redbridge defence failed to clear a loose ball which fell into the path of Cockman who fired home through a crowded box.

Their lead was short-lived as Redbridge were soon back in front when a long ball over the top found Dingli and he had time to pick his spot stroking the ball home for his 2nd of the game.

Redbridge full back Marcus Carter then broke forward bearing down on goal but he shot wide.

Sawbridgeworth levelled once again through Cleaver who got his 2nd of the game when he took the ball past Mernagh and found the back of an empty net.

The game was now becoming very open as both sides went looking for a the next goal and it almost came to the away side but a shot was well blocked by a blue shirt.

A good attack resulted in a shot from Cleaver which brought out a good save from Mernagh however from the resulting corner the ball was headed back across goal by Matt Frew finding Cockman who scored from close range restoring the away side's lead.

It was Cockman again grabbing his hat trick when he fired from distance seeing his shot taking a wicked deflection which wrong footed Mernagh and simply rolled past him as he was left stranded to the spot.

The last chance for the home side came after a good move released substitute Oliver Dingli who saw his effort just go over the bar.

In the final moments Sawbridgeworth grabbed a sixth through Cleaver who also got his hat trick to seal a fine away performance.
