Redbridge Edge 7 Goal Cup Feast

Redbridge Edge 7 Goal Cup Feast

Adam Silver8 Dec 2016 - 20:57

Redbridge beat Barkingside 4-3 to progress to the 2nd Round of the Essex Senior League Challenge Cup.

This local derby brought together the two sides for the third meeting this season with the scores currently standing at a win a piece.

This time around it was the Essex Senior League challenge cup and a 2nd round home tie with either Waltham Forest/Sawbridgeworth Town awaiting the winners .

Early pressure from the home side almost resulted in a goal when top scorer Jacob Dingli ran onto a through ball which was misjudged by a Barkingside defender.

As he rounded the keeper he was brought down to the ground but to the amazement of all in the ground the referee waved away the penalty appeal.

The first chance for the away side came via ex Redbridge striker Jaosn Fontaine but his effort was deflected away for a corner.

A great move between Adam Hunt and Marcus Carter resulted in a teasing cross which was just flicked to safety by a defender with Dingli waiting to pounce .

The game was starting to become quite stretched as both sides were having chances on the counter attack.

A little flick from Hunt almost released Dingli but Jack Francis was quick out of his goal to make the save.

The home side pressure did eventually see them take the lead on 34mins when clever thinking from Hunt saw him take a quick free kick straight into the path of the unmarked Bryan Kyungu who had time to look up before slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Barkingside almost grabbed an instant reply when a dangerous cross was floated in finding Fontaine who headed just over the bar.

It was 2-0 after 40mins when a corner was swung in finding the head of young defender Jack Roult who popped up with his first goal for the club.

The first chance of the 2nd half came from Barkingside midfielder Dale Lee who volleyed wide.

Redbridge then broke through Carter who released MIller but his shot was off target.

Barkingside were then given a glimmer of hope when they were awarded a penalty after a poor pass out from Mernagh was picked up by a Barkingside player and as he went to shoot he was brought down by Charlie Parish.

The referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the spot and up stepped Luke With who fired straight down the middle to score.

The goal lifted the away side who were now pushing forward looking for the equaliser which certainly looked a long way off at half time.

They had a good effort through Kobie Ambrose letting fly from distance bringing a smart save from Mernagh.

Redbridge however restored their two goal advantage with a super goal from Terrell Miller. H broke free out on the right wing beating his marker inside and out before unleashing a powerful drive past the outstretched arm of Francis.

Redbridge games of late were certainly entertaining and this one was proving no different as Barkingside pulled another goal back this time through Fontaine as he stroked the ball home.

Jakob Berkowicz then came close to an equaliser for Barkingside as he almost slipped the ball past Mernagh however his miss proved costly as Redbridge then went up the other end and scored again when Miler broke free and with no defenders anywhere in sight he simply rolled the ball to Hunt who calmly took a touch before poking the ball into the corner of the net.

Deep into added time Barkingside did pull another goal back through the tall figure of With who headed home a corner but it was too late and it was the home side who progress through to the 2nd round.
