Redbridge hosted league one opponents AFC Wimbledon in the 2nd Round of the London Senior Cup but due to the fact their 1st team were in action away at Gillingham it meant their side was mainly represented with players from their development side, it also meant for a slightly lower attendance that we would have hoped to see.
The first chance fell to the away side when a cross came in from the right finding Judah Chapman unmarked but he headed over the bar. Pressure continued from Wimbledon but without really being able to test Jake Mernagh in the home goal whilst most of Redbridge's best play looked to come down the right wing through the lively Joe Gent.
It was however Wimbledon who opened the scoring on 22 minutes when the dangerous Toyosi Olosamya waltzed past a couple of challenges before thumping a ferocious effort flying past Mernagh. The goal suddenly gave the away side an extra stride in their play and the lead was doubled just five minutes later when Alfie Egan found space before looking up and curling his effort into the back of the net.
It should have been 3 but for a poor miss by George Oakley after good work down the right flank by full back Renee-Pringle set him up with the easiest of chances.
Redbridge then had their best chance as the ball fell to Gent who found him selves through on goal but his shot was well saved by Nik Tzanev in the Dons goal.
As the half time whistle approached it did become 0-3 as a long ball up field found the run of Oakley who finished well past Mernagh who was some way off his goal line.
It was a strong start to the 2nd half from the home side who had their best chance of the game, great skill by Samuel Phillips on the left saw him beat his man before his cross was met by Adam Hunt on the volley but his effort went narrowly wide.
Egli Kaja then had a good chance for Wimbledon as he managed to created space for himself before shooting just wide.
The home side were playing much better and deservedly pulled a deserved goal back on 59 minutes when Joe Gent was on hand to find the back of the net with a tidy finish after the Wimbledon defence had failed to clear.
Redbridge were then forced into a change when keeper Mernagh limped off with an injury to be replaced between the posts by defender Jack Roult with Jordan Cornelius coming off the bench.
The replacement keeper pulled off two good saves to deny Wimbledon before they were then given an opportunity to further increase the lead from the spot which was despatched by Olosamya grabbing his brace.
The home side tried their best to pull another goal back but were unable to find the break through as Wimbledon held firm to see the match out and will now travel to Southern Counties league side Cray Valley in the next round.
