Poku Late Late Show Seals Victory

Adam Silver31 Jan 2018 - 22:23

For the 2nd home game running sub Calvin Poku scored a late goal to secure a 3-2 win over Stansted. Other goals came through Moses and Dingli.

Redbridge were looking for their 13th consecutive win as they hosted Stansted who themselves were in good recent form winning three of their last four.

It took only four minutes for the Motormen to take the lead as Brian Moses first saw his initial attempt saved by Laurence Whymark before moments later the keeper was then at fault as he dropped the ball at the strikers feet who had the simple task of scoring into an empty net for what was his 25th goal of the season.

A collision just outside the box between Redbridge keeper Lewis Greene and Stansted player Julien Lloyd soon followed in which the away bench were shouting for a free kick against their player which never came.

On 19 minutes they were awarded a free-kick and in a well worked move straight from the training ground they got their equaliser as Stefan Nielsen rifled home into the bottom corner of the net.

Redbridge then tried a good move of their own also via a free kick as Eljay Worrell almost caught everyone off-guard with a quickly taken low ball into the box which almost found the run of Reside Coxi-Sebastfao.

The home side then went back in front as a tackle saw the ball fall directly into the path of Jacob Dingli who rolled his effort past Whymark which appeared at first to go wide before creeping inside the far post.

Redbridge ended the half strongly and almost scored another as Dingli first slipped in Thomas Gogo who was denied only by the crossbar before he then crossed for Moses who fired over.

The 2nd period began as the first had ended with the home side on the attack however Stansted soon got themselves back level again after good work on the right flank by Lloyd saw him beat his man before squaring the ball into space and Ramsey was able to run and connect superbly firing past Greene into the top corner.

A long delay to proceedings soon followed after Jack West went down injured for some time before finally being carried from the pitch, when play did resume Moses should have scored but could only head wide from close range.

Stansted then had a great chance to take the lead as Lloyds shot was hacked off the line by Courtney Homans before another chance followed for the visitors as Paul Preston cut the ball back to Nielsen who fired just wide.

As the match entered injury time Redbridge played their final roll of the dice making a double substitution as Lindisipho Mtyanda and Calvin Poku took to the field and it was the latter who as in the last home match v Barkingside was once again the hero as he stroked the ball home in the 96th minute – cue wild celebrations as it was certainly a case of deja-vu at the Oakside.

In all nearly 15 minutes of injury time was played before the referee eventually called time on proceedings as the Motormen continued their superb run and go back six points clear of 2nd placed FC Romania.
