Late Turnaround Seals Win

Late Turnaround Seals Win

Adam Silver14 Oct 2017 - 22:30

Redbridge scored two late goals to beat Sporting Bengal Utd 3-2 and make it 8 league wins on the spin.

A confident Redbridge went into the match looking to keep the pressure up on the sides in and amongst them at the top of the table. Their opponents Sporting Bengal Utd had started the season well however recent weeks had seen them drop down the table having lost their last three league matches.

The first chance of the game fell to the home side when a Patrick Duggan cross field pass found Brian Moses in space and although he managed to round keeper Attaib Khan he found himself out in a wide position and his cross back into the box was cleared to safety.

Redbridge were forcing the early pressure resulting in a series of corners, one of which led to the opening goal as Eljay Worrell floated the ball to the far post finding Reside Coxi-Sebastfao who headed home.

The goal woke up the away side soon who had their best chance of the game when Adil Salih put in a lovely ball which just evaded David Vaughan at the far post, following that Freddy Tandon found Kai Parkinson in space and his shot was tipped over by Lewis Greene.

From the resulting corner a loose defensive clearance fell to Steven Carvell who had the time and space to fire a fine shot from distance past the outstretched dive of Greene to level the scores.

The away side were now on top and a long ball over the top caught out the Redbridge back line and in trying to clear a defensive error saw the ball directed straight into the path of Kai Parkinson who made no mistake from close range to turn the game on its head.

As half time approached a Carvell free kick was whipped in finding Parkinson unmarked however he was unable to connect whilst up the other end a Moses shot straight went into the welcome arms of Khan.

Into the 2nd half and Parkinson tried a cheeky rabona effort which just cleared the bar before Redbridge substitute Calvin Poku had a good chance but decided to take one touch too many when it seemed better to shoot and the ball was cleared.

Moses then tried his luck with a curling effort from distance but a defender managed to get back on the line and was able to head away.

Khan was then called upon to make a superb double save first getting down well to deny Eljay Worrell before his quick reactions saw him keep out the follow up from Coxi-Sebastfao.

The home side were now pushing forward looking for the equaliser and had a couple of string penalty decisions waived away however almost conceded at the other end when substitute Spencer Forte hit the outside of a post.

With the game drifting away Redbridge did finally get their goal, a Patrick,Duggan free kick found sub Tommie Turner out wide who crossed finding Eljay Worrell lurking at the far post.

And with just two minutes remaining a poor clearance from Joshua Adjei landed at the feet of Poku who lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper who was outside his area and the ball looped over him and down into the back of the net sending players and the home bench into wild celebrations.

Although not their best performance in recent weeks it shows the sign of a good side who can still manage to ground out a win which was their eight consecutive in the league.
