Motormen win Early Kick-Off

Adam Silver12 Nov 2017 - 17:52

Redbridge beat Burnham Ramblers 3-1 in the early game thanks to a Brian Moses brace and a Tommie Turner goal.

The two sides met in this early kick which was part of the Essex Senior League groundopper weekend and were hoping for as entertaining a match as when they last met just a few weeks earlier in a 4-3 Burnham victory which put an end to Redbridge's winning run.

The home side started well and an early Vinny Murphy free kick looked to be dipping in to the far corner requiring a hand from Joshua Strizovic to turn it over.

Redbridge took the lead after 8 minutes when a Joshua Hutchinson cross found Brian Moses who rose unmarked to head home.
Burnhams first chance came through a long range effort from Ben Burgess who made Lewis Greene in goal make the save although the ball rebounded back to a player who headed over when should have done better.

Back up the other end and Moses once again got up to head a cross however this time the ball fell just wide off the post.

Almost panic in the home back line as a header from Franco Guidi looked to be heading wide however Bradley Morgan ran onto the loose ball and had a a shot back towards goal which was hacked away to safety.

Superb work by Moses down the left wing saw him cross into the middle where the ball was then cleared straight into the path of Eljay Worrell who looked certain to score but his shot was well kept out by Strizovic.

The match started to become a little scrappy however Burnham were starting to get themselves back into the game and managed to find an equaliser after a good cross from Bradley Morgan finding Fraser Inns at the far post who directed his header past Lewis Greene.

Redbridge then had a chance when Joshua Hutchinson beat the offside trap as he ran through on goal but his effort was saved.

The second half began with Eljay Worrell almost restoring the home side’s advantage only to see his goal ruled offside by the officials before Moses brought the ball down for Lindisipho Mtyanda who could not keep the ball down and fired over.

A Vinny Murphy free kick then found Moses in space but the ball hit against his knee and bounced just wide off the target before he was then denied as Strizovic was quick off his line to deny the tall striker.

It was certainly now case of backs to the wall for Burnham who were defending well in numbers putting their bodies in the way to block several chances however they would have been disappointed to therefore concede directly from a Worrell corner as that man Moses had the simple task of heading home without even needing to jump for the ball.

All Burnham could really offer was a double effort from a corner as Redbridge then had a great chance to put daylight between the sides when substitute Jacob Dingli was put through however he took too long to get his shot in and the Burnham keeper was able to make the save. It was only understandable that Redbridge’s top scorer last season was a little rusty after being out for nearly 3 months injured.

It was soon three when Dingli connected to a Moses through ball and although his initial effort was saved he was able to poke the ball into the path of Tommie Turner who tapped home from close range.

Dingli had further chances to grab himself a goal but it was not to be and although in the end Redbridge made hard work of this victory it was yet another win which with other results now seem them up to 3rd spot which sets things up nicely for Tuesday night’s encounter over Clapton.
