Redbridge were looking to get back to winning ways after a bad couple of weeks which had seen them take just one point from a possible six as they look for a top two finish and promotion to the Bostik league, standing in their way was the league’s form side Enfield 1893 who were on the back of an 8 match winning run which had seen them climb up the table to 9th place.
With Brian Moses serving the final game of his three match suspension in came striker Daniel Gilchrist for his first start and he looked lively in the opening exchanges and he did well out wide showing persistence before crossing for Calvin Poku but ex Redbridge player Jayden Hocking-Rising in goal was able to cut it out.
Reside Coxi-Sebastfao then put over a nice ball into the path of Gilchrist but the ball took an age to come down and allowed an Enfield defender time to clear the danger.
Eljay Worrell then floated a corner to the far post finding the head of Gilchrist who saw his effort cleared away off the line before the same two players combined again but the striker’s shot was held by the Enfield keeper.
Another chance came when Gilchrist found space before finding Coxi-Sebastfao who pulled the ball back into the path of Thomas Gogo but his shot was well off target, Phillip Browne-Bamfpoe then released Coxi-Sebastfao but his shot was well held by Hocking-Rising.
The home side continued to have all the early possession but without really testing the Enfield goalkeeper and they were made to pay when with Enfield went up field the other end and scored with their first opportunity.
They won a corner which was swung in and with the Motormen failing to clear the ball fell to Andre Spencer who fired home from the edge of the box past the dive of Lewis Greene.
The Motormen were getting in good positions but on too many occasions were being flagged for offside as Jonathon Mbamarah went close as his header hit a defender on the line before being cleared away to safety.
The final chance of the half fell to the away side as a free kick was whipped in finding an Enfield player’s head and with the ball looking to creep in at the far post Greene did well to get down and smother.
Into the second half and Liam Thomas was awarded an early yellow card after he missed the ball and instead got his man catching Spencer in the midriff, the resulting free kick caused panic in the home defence before being hacked away.
The atmosphere around the Oakside was tense as Redbridge desperately needed a way back into the match but were failing to put enough pressure on the Enfield defence.
Coxi-Sebastfao made space for himself before firing well over before a ball was pumped into the middle missing two Redbridge players before being cleared for a corner.
From the resulting kick Redbridge were level when the ball was put in in and after a goal line melee Browne Bamfpoe was on hand to bundle the ball over the line to finally calm the home side’s nerves.
The home side now pushed forward looking for a winner and Gilchrist had a good chance as he tried to walk around the Enfield defence but delayed in taking his shot and the chance finally came to nothing.
At the other end a Daniel Chambers header was well saved by Greene before the same player had a shot but it lacked power and drifted out wide.
That proved to the final action of the match before the full time whistle was blown and although Redbridge were able to put a stop to Enfield’s winning run they will feel this was another two points dropped with now just four matches remaining of the season.
