Redbridge Motor On In FA Cup

Adam Dennehey12 Sep 2010 - 20:19

A professional performance from Redbridge saw of London Colney 2-0 at the Oakside in the FA Cup.

As a result of defeating Colney, the Motormen moved through to the Second Qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2005. Not only that, but the result earned another £3000 for the club – which is nice little bonus to have.

Right from the first minute, the Motormen started brightly with the livewire Alex Read having shooting narrowly wide following good play from his strike partner Julian Edwards.

Colney barley had a kick of the ball inside the opening ten minutes and with that in mind it was not a suprise when on 11 minutes Redbridge went ahead. A Steve Good ball was latched onto by Julian Ashby who went past two Colney defenders skilfully before making his way into the box.

A quick one two with Read presented Ashby with the chance on goal, which the midfielder did not waste as he cooly slotted the ball past Colney’s keeper John Armand in goal to score his first goal of the season. It was the best start imaginable for managers Dave Ross and Kris Taylor who would have been delighted not only with Ashby’s finish but the build up play which led to the goal.

Scoring the goal gave Redbridge lots of confidence. Read and Edwards were linking up well and Edwards was looking in good form as he curled a shot goalwards only for it to be saved by Armand.

Colney’s only real chance of the match came minutes into the second half and it proved to a costly miss for the visitors. A long ball from Mark Paradise split the Motormen’s defence allowing striker David Parkinson the chance for a run on goal. Parkinson did well to edge past Donovan Wilson and with the goal at his mercey dragged his shot wide, much to the relief of Dave McCartney in goal for Redbridge and the rest of the home fans in attendance.

Five minutes later Redbridge doubled the lead and sealed their passage into the next round with another goal that was down to another good team move. Breaking from a throw in on the right Tom Stephen, Alex Read and Julian Edwards linked up well to present Sonny Adams with a chance from just inside the penalty area. Adams finished clinically to score his first goal of the season and his second for the club.

With the game all but won, changes were made as Redbridge saw the game out. Agdomar almost grabbed a third for the Motormen following good play from sub’s Mark Nougher and Leon Diaczuk but struck a powerful shot over the bar from around 20 yards out.

The only blemish on the victory for Redbridge was a late injury to experienced right back Wilson which saw the tireless South African taken off to prevent further injury.

Redbridge: McCartney, Wilson (Donovan), Stephen, Good, Crossley, Peddie, Adams, Agdomar, Read (Diaczuk), Edwards, Ashby (Nougher)

I caught up with Joint Manager Kris Taylor after the game and found out his take on what overall was a good performance by the lads. To download and hear the interview go to http://www.mediafire.com/file/v44zdn6tn46anhq/Kris%20Taylor%20London%20Colney.MP3.
