EMPHATIC MOTORMEN THROUGH IN ERRINGTON CUP

EMPHATIC MOTORMEN THROUGH IN ERRINGTON CUP

Adam Silver26 Oct 2019 - 21:48

Redbridge are through to the Quarter Finals of the Errington Challenge Cup after beating Enfield 4-0

These two mid table sides turned their attention to the Errington Challenge Cup as Redbridge hosted their first game at the Oakside since early September.

Tony Martin started up top and he put a teasing ball across the goal looking for Jordayne Henry at the far post and although he got a touch he was unable to put any real purchase on it and the chance went begging.

The opening 15 minutes were a tense affair with the wet conditions making it difficult for either side to play their passing game and lacked any real quality.

The match was shouting out for a goal which duly arrived after 20 minutes when good persistence was shown down the left side by Jack Blackledge and he broke clear before putting a ball into the middle finding Tony Martin who slid in to fire home his first goal for the club.
Enfield were showing little in the final third and their best effort came when a free kick was floated in by ex motorman Ben Bradbury finding Chris Gormley who could only head over.

The home side were in control coming forward at every opportunity but without really testing Jordan Stansbury in the Enfield goal with Tom Harvey coming the closest but his shot lacked any real power and was easily gathered.

Enfield then had a couple of quick chances through firstly Joe Pattison and then through Ronnie Ledwith who saw his shot fall just wide of the upright.

It proved to be a costly miss as Redbridge came straight up the other end and doubled their lead Tom Harvey found the run of Taylor Tombides and with just Stansbury to beat the striker made no mistake grabbing his 12th goal of the campaign to put this side ahead at the break.

Redbridge started the second period on the front foot with substitute Dan Gilchrist playing a smart ball over the top to Martin who squared to Henry who tried to find the far corner but his shot agonisingly dropped the wrong side of the post.

Harvey Brown then played a ball over the top which an Enfield defended missed allowing Martin in on goal but he rifled his shot just wide.
Enfield had their first chance of the half when a long throw from Alfie Cleal which was headed across the goal mouth with Bradbury lurking however was unable to get the vital touch.

Good play by Gilchrist saw him lay the ball into the path of Henry who seemed destined to score but not for the first time today the shot went wide.

Enfield brought on former Redbridge striker Nana Asamoah who looked lively and gave his side more of an attacking threat , he almost scored with his first touch only to be denied as his shot was deflected off a Redbridge defender and went over the top.

The home side then had a series of chances all spurned through firstly James Barlow and then Martin however he was not to be denied his second goal when he headed home unmarked from a Blackledge corner.

Enfield came forward and Gormley thought he had scored when only to be denied by a great stop from Larkins who reacted well after making a good stop from the initial effort.

With the minutes counting down Barlow was denied by the feet of Stansbury before Gilchrist got in on the action poking home a Martin cross to secure the victory and seal their path into the Quarter Finals where they will face either Southend Manor or Hoddesdon Town.
