t was a good organised performance from the Motormen which showed again the improvements that have been implemented into the side by Kris Taylor and Amin Levitt in the last couple of weeks.
Redbridge came out the blocks well and good play by Hyun-Jin Lee presented Anton Agdomar with an early effort on goal which went wide. With little time on the ball the visitors could not settle into the game and it was no surprise when on 17 minutes the Motormen took the lead.
Saying that though, the scorer of the goal was a surprise. Brave play in midfield by Matty Gillingham found Ellis Skidmore on the edge of the box who threaded the ball across the box into the direction of Matty Donovan bombing up from the defence. Charging past his marker like he wasn't there, the young right back controlled the ball well before stretching his shot under Leyton's keeper Aaron Omand for his first goal for the club.
Leyton then put pressure on the Motormen, who had James Redwood in goal to thank for keeping their lead intact going into half time. First the goalie made a steady save from a powerful Charlie Hamsher freekick before brilliantly tipping wide an equally strong shot from Ashley Douglas that would have certainly crept inside the post. From the resutling corner Redwood made another smart save keeping out a good header from Manny Osigwu.
Redbridge doubled their lead four minutes into the second half. After Sonny Adams worked hard to win the ball back, Ben Britnell's forward pass found Skidmore through on goal. With good composure Skidmore slotted past Onmand with ease to score his fourth goal for the club.
With memories of our recent draw away to Potters Bar still fresh in the mind, the boys worked hard to ensure our progress through to the next round where we are due to play Tooting & Mitcham at the Oakside.
