Last Minute Penaty Denies Motormen Win

Last Minute Penaty Denies Motormen Win

Adam Silver22 Oct 2014 - 22:47

A 90th minute penalty denied Redbridge the win against Waltham Abbey as the match ended 1-1. Our goal also a penalty was scored by Chinedu McKenzie

Redbridge conceded an injury time equaliser to drop their first points in four league games in a fiercely contested game on Tuesday evening.

The men in blue came into the game on the back of four wins in five in, as for the visitors their good league form has seen them remain unbeaten in their previous seven matches.

The home side started brightly with Shane Wallace going close in the early stages but his cross come shot was cleared of the line.

Waltham Abbey's first notable chance came on the half hour mark but James Hallet’s turn and shot wasn't good enough to beat an inform Jack Avery who saved well low down.

A quiet first half ended with a hugely controversial moment as Wallace was brought down in the box and a spot kick was awarded. Chinedu McKenzie continued his blistering form when he coolly converted the penalty sending James May the wrong way.

In first half stoppage time Redbridge nearly doubled their advantage but Moses near post effort was tipped round the post by May.

The chances kept coming into the second period with Liam Thomas heading over from close range when he really should have done better.

Avery halted Hallet from close range when he should have scored and Matt Attard’s looping header went wide as more chances were wasted for the Abbey.

The host’s only real opportunity of the second half fell to Moses who found himself unmarked but blazed his header much to the frustration of the home crowd, it was a real chance to secure the three points.

Avery was putting in another remarkable performance and was on hand to block Jon Docker’s effort when he found himself one on one with the Redbridge shot stopper.

Further openings came for the visitors but they kept missing them, first James Elmes somehow missed at the back post and then soon after James Peagram fluffed his big moment latching onto Ben Hart’s pass but his effort went wide when it seemed easier to score.

Peagram had another chance to nick his side a point when he beat Avery to the ball but his header landed the wrong side of the post.

Just when it looked like the Motormen we're going to make it four wins on the bounce they conceded a 93rd minute penalty.

Dapo Abitogun fouled Peagram when he found himself in the clear, the Redbridge defender was given his marching orders and Docker was given the opportunity to earn his side a point. He confidently stepped up to score the resulting penalty leaving Avery helpless to give his side a well-deserved draw.
