Rovers leapfrogged their opponents today in the league as they grabbed their first back to back league victories this season
There are good signs coming from Burroughs Park and despite a tight first half, there was only one team in this game in the second 45 minutes, which ensured the three points for Dan Trenkels men.
With both teams needing the three points, all was cagey in the opening exchanges but with just 4 minutes on the clock, Brian Moses capitalised on a poor header by Nick Skelton but Adam Seals saved well down to his left. Ten minutes Leon Smith venturing forward from the back smashed a drive against the bar to leave the Rovers faithful gasping at the near miss.
Shortly after Redbridge stopped Jack Avery came off worse in a 50/50 challenge with Tom Ranger and required 5 minutes of treatment to what appeared to be his right knee. On the 20 minute mark it was Ranger again making strides into the box and jumped on a loose ball but Avery was up to the task to save at close range.
Despite the majority of play and possession Redbridge grabbed the opening goal of the game as Skeels wayward pass was pounced on by Bostry Bansende who placed the ball past Seals left to the delight of the Redbridge management.
The lead lasted just four minutes as Skeels superb dead ball found Ranger leaping highest to head the ball past a despairing Avery dive. The free kick stemming from a foul on Tom Strickland by Leon Smith, the young winger causing some problems for the Redbridge right back.
It was Strickland again who was fouled in almost exactly the same spot, which gave Joe Skeels another chance to float the ball into the box from a free kick and although Redbridge defended Tyron Thomas got a touch the ball was stabbed home at the far post by Billy Radley to give Rangers the lead in the match just before the half time whistle.
With the second half 10 minutes old Trenkel made his first change with John Bradley entering the fray at the expense of Tom Strickland, the winger having down a great job down the left wing. The change saw Eljay Worrell move out wide in his space. Barely a minute after his move to the left Worrell saw a left footed volley disappear just over the bar.
Rovers extended their lead just after the hour mark, Tom Rangers corner drifting beautifully over the keeper to find Nick Skelton at the back post for a simple tap in. Ten minutes later it was Skelton again on the score sheet this time Joe Skeels the provider with another wonderful free kick finding the head of the big defender.
The 76th minute saw Billy Johnson enter the game with Jay Nash’s work being done for the day. Johnson took just 5 minutes to run through and fire a goal of the season contender into the top left corner, Jack Avery having no chance against a shot that appeared to swerve in all directions.
Redbridge weren’t finished just yet and Adam Seal had to be on his guard to push wide a drive from substitute Dapo Abitogun. Rovers grabbed their sixth of the afternoon in the 88th minute with Tom Ranger’s second of the game played in by John Bradley, the attackers curling right footed effort nestling into the bottom left of the net.
But just like other games this season Rovers conceded at the death. A Redbridge corner following some good possession and pressure found Patrick Damali who finished from close range.
