The Motormen's poor league form continued as they suffered a home defeat against AFC Sudbury. They went into the match confident after their midweek Essex Senior Cup victory but the opposition were a step up from the Essex Senior side Takeley whom they beat on Tuesday evening.
In came reserve player George Winn for his Ryman League debut as the home side were missing several players through injury or other means.
With only two minutes on the clock there were strong penalty appeals from AFC Sudbury after Leon Smith tangled with James Baker but the referee waived away the appeals much to the annoyance of the away bench.
Redbridge had their first real effort when McKenzie broke free down the right but his effort dragged harmlessly wide of the far post.
The away side were on top and make their possession count after 22 minutes taking the lead through Ryan Henshaw. The defender was the first to react when Redbridge failed to clear a long throw in and with Mark Parker off his line he looped his header over the goalkeeper into the back of the empty net.
It was almost 2-0 shortly after as Smith's short back pass was intercepted by Baker but Parker was on hand to foil the striker's two attempts at goal.
The remainder of the half saw the away side continue to press and Redbridge had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping him in the match with some vital stops.
The Motormen brought on Brian Moses for Lee Newton as they tried to impose more of an attacking threat but it made little difference and it was shortly 2-0 to the visitors.
A pass was laid off to Sam Clarke who fired his effort past a stranded Parker and although at first the referee blew his whistle he soon let the goal stand after consulting with his official.
The victory moves Sudbury up to 6th in the league 5 points off a play off place whilst Redbridge now sit in 21st position just 1 point ahead of the relegation positions.
