The term "relegation six pointer "was never more evident than it was tonight at the Oakside as 4th from bottom Redbridge entertained 3rd bottom Romford and it was the Motormen who got the all important win and 3 points.
It was the away side who started the strongest of the two teams and they had a strong penalty shout waived away after the ball seemed to hit a Redbridge defenders arm after a free kick had not been properly cleared.
The home side’s best move came when both Joe Gent and Kacey Adams combined with a beautiful one two move which resulted in Gent racing clear from chasing defenders but he saw his fierce shot well saved by Aaron Omond in the Romford goal.
The best chance of the half then fell to Romford when a good reaction save from Mark Parker saw the ball fall kindly to Tyrone Scarlett but his effort drifted wide of the post much to the home side's relief.
Redbridge then came straight up the other end with a chance from the lively Gavin Cockman but again Omond was on hand to make the save.
Just as it appeared the half would end goalless Romford took the lead, a loose ball fell to Louis Hazelwood who with time and space ran at the Redbridge defence before unleashing his long range shot which Parker could only help parry into his net.
Redbridge came out for the 2nd half knowing they needed a good strong start and they got just that after 5 minutes when Cockman floated in a free kick which found the unmarked Aaron Scott who simply jumped unchallenged to head the ball home for the equaliser.
The Motormen were now well on top and almost took the lead when yet another Cockman free kick was placed into the box but this time it evaded everyone and hit a post before going wide.
The game was now starting to go from end to end as both sides pressed for the winner and Romford thought they got it when substitute Nick Reynolds headed against a post but fortunately for the home side the ball dropped kindly back into the welcome arms of Parker.
It was Redbridge however who got the winner from the penalty spot after Nathan Cooper brought down Cockman and up stepped mark Nougher to score his 10th goal of the season
The whistle soon went to give the home side the 3 points which seems them climb up to 20th position now on 37 points, joint with 17th placed Great Wakering Rovers
