Redbridge hosted bottom of the table Southend Manor as they looked to get back to winning ways after midweek defeat at Halstead Town.
From the off the home side showed their attacking intent as James Barlow was allowed far too much space to keep running goal wards before seeing his shot turned behind by Manor keeper Harry McKie for a corner.
The crossbar then came to the rescue for the away side as Tony Martin forced his way into the box getting his effort rebounded up onto the bar and away to safety.
The early pressure soon from the Motormen soon paid off as they took the lead, a cross field ball to Solomon Ogunwomoju saw him bring the ball down and move quickly away from a defender before cutting inside another and finally unleashed a powerful effort which left McKie helpless.
A good passing move for Redbridge ended at the feet of Ogunwomoju who this time went for the curling effort but got his angles all wrong and shot well wide.
Manor was causing their own problems at the back as hesitation between keeper and defender almost presented Martin with an opportunity to score. They did eventually come forward for the first time in the game although a corner was all they could muster.
A quick break followed for Redbridge, Jack Roult broke out of defence playing a ball to Ogunwomoju who looked up seeing the run of Jerold Cobblah however his early cross was well cut out by Mckie.
The 2nd goal did however duely arrive, a free-kick from a central position was taken by Jack Chawner, it floated into the box evading everyone including Mckie who could only look on as the ball sailed above him and into the back of the net in which from his perspective was a poor goal to concede.
With Redbridge now two ahead it could well have been game over but credit to Manor who started to play some decent football, only the post denied them pulling a goal back when Enock Soganile powerful drive had Conner Wheatley in the Redbridge goal stranded.
Forced into an early substitution Joe Darby then was denied by the feet of Wheatley before Soganile showed good feet to drift past a number of defenders before seeing his attempt turned behind by Chawner.
The half ended however with Redbridge on the attack as Barlow first hit the side netting before Ogunwomoju snap shot was always rising.
The first chance of the second half fell to the home side, Ogunwomoju found space on the right flank digging out a cross into the path of Barlow who looked certain to score however only last ditch defending denied number three.
Olamiji Ayoola then headed straight at McKie before a Barlow effort lacked power whilst at the other end Soganile had flashed an effort wide for the visitors.
A third goal soon arrived , Roult ran into space down the left before putting over a teasing cross which deserved someone on the end of it , Barlow doing just so by diving in to head home.
Manor again showed spirit and jut two minutes later got themselves back into the game, a corner was only partially punched clear by Wheatley before being headed back in and across the line in a crowded penalty box.
Cobblah tried his luck from range which saw McKie gather at the second attempt before Martin wasted a great chance to get himself on the score sheet but took the wrong decision when the ball needed hitting first time.
Meanwhile at the other end shouts for a penalty fell on deaf ears after an apparent hand ball in the box were ignored by the officials.
Ogunwomoju then went close with a free kick which dropped just the wrong side of the post before Manor got themselves another goal, yet again poor defending from the hosts allowed the ball to be stabbed home from close range.
With just over 10 minutes to go there was still much to play for and it was the home side who got that all important next goal, a ball was crossed into the middle finding Jamie Smith who brought the ball down but lost control in doing so however in trying to win it back it deflected against a defender kindly into the path of substitute Reuben Campbell who took a touch before firing low into the bottom corner to restore his sides two goal advantage.
There was still time for either side to score again, Wheatley had to be at full stretch to turn the ball behind whilst at the other end a great run from fellow substitute Michael Pindy ended with him shooting well wide of the target.
Full time was then called on what was an entertaining game of football and although Redbridge would have been disappointed to have conceded two goals they got the all important three points whilst Manor can take some credit from their second half display and will need to show plenty more of it if they are to stay in this division.
