Unbeaten Run Continues

Unbeaten Run Continues

Adam Silver26 Feb 2023 - 20:09

Redbridge made it 13 matches unbeaten with a 2-0 home victory over Halstead Town, goals from Jamie Price and James Barlow.

Halstead Town were the opponents as Redbridge looked to continue their good form against the side who were the last to inflict defeat on the Motormen, since that night in November Redbridge have gone unbeaten in 13 matches and only conceded 3 goals.

It was the away side who were asking the questions in the early stages as first Alfie Cleal saw his volley kindly fall straight into the arms of Connor Wheatley before Joel Older tried his luck but again the effort was easily gathered by the home keeper.

Redbridge then came forward for the first time going close as Abs Thompson saw his shot cleared off the line by defender Jordan Palmer after a scramble in the Halstead box.

From the next attack the Halstead goal led a charmed life as first James Barlow saw his attempt pushed away by keeper Jack Cherry before the rebound fell to Bradley Bennett, he saw his shot deflected against the upright before the ball came back to Purcell who fired the ball back in at goal only to see it crash back off the crossbar, a lucky escape for the visitors.

The home side continued to come forward as Thompson firstly shot into the side netting before then dragging an effort wide, Jerold Cobblah then tried his luck only to be denied by Cherry.

The pressure finally told from the Motormen who went in front after 34 minutes, a corner came in from the left and although it appeared Joe Elliott got the final touch it was in fact turned over the line by Jamie Price.

With the half time break approaching Redbridge went looking for a second as the lively Thompson flashed a valley wide after a corner had been flicked into his path

A more promising opening spell to the second half for the away side as Jordan Blackwell volleyed a good chance wide before Oli Lonton blasted well over.

Redbridge had their first chance as James Barlow found Purcell in space, his shot looked to be heading in but Palmer denied him with a superb save to tip behind for a corner. Moments later he was called upon again to this time deny Price from scoring a second as he got down well to block.

There was little however he could do to prevent Redbridge doubling their lead, Thompson did well to bring the ball under control and he lobbed the ball through into the path of Barlow who held off a defender and firing the ball past a helpless Cherry.

Credit to Halstead who never lay down as Palmer headed wide from a good position however the home side remained on control and almost grabbed a third when Barlow saw a chance deflected behind after good work by Price to cut the ball back.

The visitors almost pulled a goal back as Older directly from a free-kick looked for the far corner however Wheatley was alert to turn behind. They went close forcing Redbridge to clear off the line after a corner before substitute Joe Vogler saw a free- kick evade everyone and bounce up and over the bar.

That proved to be the last action of note and Redbridge saw the match out to record another victory and a 10th successive league clean sheet.
