Redbridge hosted Stansted as they went in search of an 8th continuous victory looking to keep hot on the tails of leaders Enfield in the Essex Senior League, Ibrahim Kehinde returned from a 3 match suspension to the starting line up where he led the line alongside George Purcell.
The visitors showed their attacking intentions in the early stages looking dangerous down the flanks and Andre Embalo played in Michael Mignot who looked to be in on goal however a late flag on the far side denied him and came to the home side’s rescue.
Mignot was getting himself into good positions and this time he cut inside from wide before choosing to shoot at goal, the ball only finding the side netting when he had players in the middle better positioned.
Stansted were looking solid at the back denying the Motormen from really creating anything of note in the final third with the best they mustered being a Jerold Cobblah effort going wide.
The visitors were having plenty of possession especially in the middle through playmaker Ashaan Siddik but like the hosts not really able to test the opposing goalkeeper.
Kehinde forced his way through a couple of challenges before playing a lovely ball into the path of Purcell however James Askew was quickly out of his area to clear the danger.
Ryan Ramsey then tried his luck with a well taken volley which Connor Wheatley saved at the second time of asking whilst Abs Thompson saw his cross just evade the head of Purcell.
There was very little to separate the sides as the referee then called for half time.
The hosts had the first chance of the second period as Kehinde was denied on two occasions, first his shot was too close to Asken who saved with his legs before the same played fired the rebound goal wards where this time Asken reacted quickly to by turning over.
Stansted were then close to opening the scoring, a long throw from the right found its way to Mignot who got up well to direct his headed towards goal only for Wheatley to fling himself across and palm away to safety.
With the clock starting to count down both sides turned to their benches for inspiration as they looked to win the game and when it looked like a goal may not arrive the home side were awarded a penalty with just 10 minutes remaining.
Jack Chawner played a cross field pass into the path of Joe Elliott and who collected the ball and tried to get pass defender Tom Massey who handled in the area leaving the referee with no choice but to award the spot kick.
Up stepped Purcell who sent Askew the wrong way emphatically firing home to give his side a precious lead, Stansted frustrations in conceding resulted in Siddik being sin binned leaving his side to play the remainder of the game a man down.
They pushed forward in search of an equaliser which failed to arrive and Redbridge held firm to see out the win and another three points, with it coming an 11th consecutive clean sheet which will have some delving into the ESL archives for a possible league record.
