Clinical Motormen Beat Stags

Redbridge bounced back from defeat with a convincing 4-0 victory at Buckhurst Hill

The Motormen made the short journey to promoted side Buckhurst Hill at the newly named Myrak Park looking to bounce back from their first league defeat of the season at Woodford Town whilst the Stags were looking for back to back wins for the first time this season after victory over Sawbridgeworth Town at the weekend.

Redbridge were quickly out the blocks as Miles Peterkin chased a through ball into the box however Daniel Blockley was quickly out his goal to make the block and concede an early corner. It was the first of a series of corners the away side won and one of those almost saw the ball turned into his own net by a Buckhurst Hill defender who was relieved to see it go wide of the upright.

The early pressure soon told and indeed it was Redbridge who took the lead, the ball was not cleared properly allowing defender Nathan Okoye to rifle a shot through a crowded penalty box that squeezed past Blockley.

A strong start for the away side who didn’t let up in their attacking play and it was no surprise to see them double their advantage shortly after when poor defending saw Peterkin steal the ball before running into the box and firing into the net.

Buckhurst Hill then came forward with their first meaningful attack which saw a dangerous cross put over from Tyler Dolan which was well defended , the home side were then awarded a free kick taken by Edward Buchannan which found the head of a blue shirt but from close range Connor Wheatley in the Redbridge goal got a strong hand and pushed it away to safety.

Back at the other end and the pace of Redbridge was causing Buckhurst Hill all sorts of problems, they came forward once again with Peterkin firing in a shot which Blockley was equal to.

Peterkin once again was involved as this time he read the bounce of the ball which floated over a defender’s head and looked to be through on goal however a poor first touch saw him lose control and give possession back to the home side.

Buckhurst Hill then had their best chance of the game as Ezekiel Bademosi unleashed a powerful effort which Wheatley had to be alert to as he tipped over the bar for a corner.

Redbridge then broke free as Peterkin played a diagonal ball to Solomon Ogunwomoju who took a touch before cutting inside a defender and curling a thumping effort into the far corner to make it 3-0

The home side were relieved to then hear the half time whistle sound in a half they were very much second best in to a dominant Redbridge.

The Motormen started the second half as they had ended the previous with an early attack which saw Ogunwomoju fire wide.

Buckhurst Hill substitute and ex Redbridge striker Hassan Nalbant then tried his luck but his effort lacked any real power and was easily gathered by Wheatley.

The game then went through a period of quiet and of little note with both sides making changes from the bench , one of those for Redbridge in Loui Hazlewood looking very lively with his first involvement being turning away from a defender who only succeeded in bringing him down and in turn receiving a yellow card for his punishment.

With 9 minutes remaining and with the home side looking to get back into the game it allowed for gaps at the back , Ogunwomoju made space down the right before putting over a cross searching for Peterkin who got in-front of a defender and turned the ball home for his second of the game.

Great work by James Barlow saw him get down the left flank before playing the ball into the path of Robbie Norris but he was to be denied as hit shot was well blocked.

Hazlewood then tried to take on one too many defenders when truth be told had better available options before two of the substitutes combined well with Reuben Campbell seeing his floating cross find Barlow who saw his diving header fly wide.

Redbridge thought their clean sheet had almost been lost however it was not to be the home sides day as Dolan saw his shot rebound off the post before Nathan Sollosi bent the rebound wide of the upright.

Full time whistle was then blown on what was convincing victory for Redbridge and a harsh lesson for Buckhurst Hill.
