Kehinde Double Downs Woodford

Adam Silver8 Feb 2023 - 09:53

An Ibrahim Kehinde first half brace saw us defeat Woodford Town 2-0

On a cold foggy evening at the Oakside two inform sides met as 2nd placed Redbridge hosted local rivals Woodford Town in 4th.

The experienced defender Mark Onyemah started for the home side who went into the game looking for an 8th consecutive clean sheet, a club record certainly under the guise of Redbridge FC.

It was a very fast open fast start to the game with Redbridge attacking from the off winning an early corner kick.

Woodford then came forward showing their attacking intentions as Ernest Okoh showed his pace on the right flank before he put over a cross which was intercepted by goalkeeper Conner Wheatley.

The away side then switched flanks to the left as the ball found it's way across to Montel McKenzie who saw his shot rifle into the side netting.

The deadlock was broken after just 14 minutes and it was the home side who went in front after Woodford failed to clear on the edge of their own box.

George Purcell won the ball then cut inside two defenders before seeing his shot only smothered by Woodford keeper Edward Allan straight into the path of Ibrahim Kehinde who saw his initial follow up blocked before the ball fortunately rebounded back against him and rolled across the line.

Purcell then saw another effort on target however on this occasion Allan was able to hold onto the ball before he was then called upon to make a fine stop denying Jamie Price who got his head to a Jack Chawner free-kick.

Woodford then looked dangerous on the break again with a move coming down the right , from it they won a corner which was swung in almost causing problems for the Redbridge defence but they were able to clear.

Back at the other end and Kehinde almost put through his strike partner Purcell but a good tackle from the Woodford defender denied him.

As the half time whistle approached the home side got that all important second goal and it was an almost carbon copy of the first with the same two players yet again involved.

This time Purcell fired a free-kick at goal which proved too hot to handle for Allan and once again Kehinde found himself in the right place to put away the rebound and give his side a two goal cushion going into the break.

The first effort of the second period fell to Redbridge as Price found himself in a forward position looking to catch out Allan at his near post but this time the keeper was equal to it.

As the temperature appeared to take a sudden drop the fog then started to descend over the ground however play was still able to continue and Kehinde looked to be in for a third but his headed was straight into the arms of Allan.

Shouts from the Woodford bench as they went looking for a penalty but nothing given as the official gave the free-kick the other way.

Redbridge had to remain strong at the back to deny the visitors who were still looking for a way back into the game , from a corner
Luke Parrott went for the volley which flew wide.

Redbridge substitute Miles Peterkin then saw a shot well blocked which was the last action of any note.

Full time was then called giving Redbridge a solid home victory and yet another clean sheet as they look to close in on leaders Enfield.
