This was no drab end of season game as both teams tried hard to snatch a win from the start but had to settle for a point each in the end.

Redbridge opened the scoring on 14 minutes when, following some uncertainty in the Romford defence, Leon Diaczuk’s close in shot was half parried by home ‘keeper Danny Mulrooney but still found enough momentum to bounce slowly over the home goal line despite the despairing efforts of James Gammons to clear it off the line.

Romford equalised just two minutes later when they won a free kick some 30 yards out from the visiting goal on the left. Andy Edmunds and Richard Oxby vied with each other to take it but it was the latter who did so and hit a rocket of a shot which sped through the crowded penalty area, across ‘keeper James Marrable and into his net.

With parity restored it was once again all to play for and both teams strove for the lead for the rest of this encounter and always looked capable of taking all the points.

However, stout defending, missed half chances and offside decisions prevented any addition to the scoring despite a number of penalty appeals at each end by players and supporters alike.

With the point each from this game Romford moved up a further place to thirteenth in the table their highest all season and Redbridge moved right out of relegation danger still with two games in hand over the teams below them.
