Dave Ross's team made it three wins out of four with a positive performance on a dark midweek night at the Oakside.
In truth this was a game that the Motormen controlled quite comfortably even with regular defender Sonny Adams being forced to play on the wing.
The first chance of the game fell to Jack West, confident from his goal that beat high flying East Thurrock at the weekend he started the game well. A good ball from the back by Simon Peddie was directed into his path by Steve Goody and West beat his marker before narrowly shooting wide of the goal.
James Marrable in goal was forced into a smart save just on the half hour when Forest’s pacey winger Luke Stanley shot from 20 yards out. It was a powerful shot from the midfielder but one that never really troubled the keeper.
Adams then put in a brilliant cross into the box which West headed over. Again he was able to beat his marker Sam Okunowo, with the ball narrowly going over the bar.
Goody was working hard for Redbridge and a good ball found the dynamic Craig White on the wing. White turned inside from the wing before sending in a brilliant ball into the box which Jason Willis in goal did well to punch clear with Mark Nougher well placed to head home.
With the score goalless at half time, Redbridge manager Dave Ross would surley have installed his side to continue their positive play from the East Thurrock game and go and dominate the game in the second half. Perfectly for Ross, this is exactly what the Motormen did and they scored what proved to be the winner four minutes into the second half.
Good work from Nougher in midfield set up Julian Ashby making his way forward from defence. After he beat Forest’s Andy Thomas with abit of trickery he sent a brilliant ball into the box. At first it looked like Bobby Port had miscontrolled the ball but he shifted his body well before shooting the ball under Willis. His third for the club after his move from Romford in the New Year.
Redbridge then set their defence out to see out the game which they did with centrebacks Peddie and Alf Dickinson not letting Forest’s striking duo of Dean Francis and Rob Carter even a kick of the ball.
The hosts were close to a second but Wilis in goal prevented that with saves from West, Port and White late on. Another good win for the Motormen, hopefully more of the same over the coming weeks.
