Redbridge lost 1-0 at home to high flying Felixstowe Town.

Redbridge were back in action at the Oakside in confident mood after their midweek victory over Heybridge Swifts.

The home side started well winning a series of corners in the opening minutes with the third one almost resulting in a goal as the ball bounced down off the crossbar before being hacked away to safety.

Felixstowe then came forward having their first opportunity as a Josh Hitter effort went curling towards the far post that Zak Brown almost connected with at the far post.

After 8 minutes Brown was tripped in the box by Jack Chawner leaving the referee in no doubt to award a penalty, up stepped Josh Mayhew who sent his penalty low to the right however Connor Wheatley was able to make the save before showing quick reactions to block the follow up.

A free kick on the left on 15 minutes saw the home side nearly score, the ball somehow missing everyone and forcing Billy Holland to turn and cleverly hook the ball away from the six-yard box as it headed for the net.

Felixstowe then had some opportunities to score with Mayhew and Brown both having good efforts before they did eventually open the scoring as from a corner Tom Bullard rose highest in the box thumping his header into the roof of the net from 6 yards.

Just before the break Ayo Odukoya forced a good save out of Felixstowe keeper Josh Blunkell who managed to divert the ball round the post, it was a true game-saving stop.

The second half started badly for Redbridge as Henry Day was forced from the field in obvious agony with a serious looking knee injury after going in for a hard challenge in the corner of the pitch which resulted in a 6-minute stoppage in play.

The break in play seemed to harm the home side as they struggled to create anything of note for long periods despite having a greater share of the possession as the game went on.

There was very little in the way of chances with defences on top however Felixstowe had a decent effort after 65 minutes when Zak Brown made a brilliant run down the right sending in a cross at speed that the home defender, facing his own goal, diverted over the bar from close range when it could easily have nestled into his own net.

Callum Harrison then had two god chances for Felixstowe , his first effort flying wide before then seeing a free kick well saved by Wheatley down in the corner of the goal.

As the game entered its closing stages Redbridge appealed strongly for a penalty which came to nothing before heading wide from a good cross.

Felixstowe held firm to see out the three points and victory which keeps them second in the table.
