Redbridge picked up 3 points on their last away match of the season, Louie Johnson scoring against his old club in a 1-0 win over Enfield.

The Motormen travelled up the M11 for their final away match of the season to face Enfield.

They almost took an early lead when striker Ayo Odukoya headed over as they started the game strongly. An early forced change was then required as skipper Lewis Clarke had to be replaced through injury by Bradley Bennett.

A massive let off then followed for Redbridge who almost scored a calamity of an own goal. a ball was played across which was intercepted by Joseph Elliott who hacked at the ball and with Connor Wheatley well out of his area the ball headed goalward to what seemed an almost certain goal however the bounce of the ball lifted it just over the crossbar much to his relief.

Enfield were starting to get themselves back into the game and went close through Sam Bantick who fired over from a good position after Redbridge had failed to clear their lines.

Back at the other end further missed chances went begging for Redbridge as both Odukoya and then Oscar Shelvey-Negus headed wide.

Enfield came forward through Frankie Franz who was given time and space which allowed him to shoot but his effort was always rising.

Enfield were looking lively and only a last ditch attempt from Bennett denied from from going ahead.

As the half drew to a close Odukoya missed the best opportunity thus far heading wide when it seemed easier to hit the target.

The first effort of the second period fell to the away side as Jayden Silcott-Brown forced a good save from Enfield’s George Edgeworth.

Former Enfield player Louie Johnson then flicked the ball into the path of Odukoya but he took the ball a little wider than he first wanted which allowed a defender to get back and block the shot.

The game became somewhat stop/start with injuries as Enfield turned to the bench having to make their 2nd substitution of the evening due to injuries.

Johnson was looking the most lively in a red shirt and on two occasions he was able to shoot but neither effort troubled Edgeworth.

The deadlock was finally broken on 75 minutes , Odukoya held the ball but with nothing on laid it into the path of Johnson who saw his shot take a wicked deflection off an Enfield defender which deceived the keeper and found the back of the net.

Little more of note followed the goal and with an additional 11 minutes added time due to those injuries Redbridge were able to hold firm and deny Enfield any further chances.

Full time was eventually called , a game that won’t live long in the memory of the 115 in attendance as both sides now look forward to Saturday and the end of the season.
