Late Heartbreak for Motormen

Late Heartbreak for Motormen

Adam Silver8 Feb - 20:47

Redbridge conceded a late injury time goal against league leaders Felixstowe & Walton Utd.

Top of the table Felixstowe and Walton United were in town to face the Motormen at the Techsoc.com stadium.

The first chance fell to the home side as youngster Jimi Feeley saw his shot sting palms of keeper Harry Wright who made an unorthadox save.

Felixstowe came forward and had big shouts for a handball in the box however the referee was well placed to wave away any appeals.

The away side then had their best chance thus far as Jack Ainsley saw his effort require Samuel Nwabuko to tip the ball away to safety.

Redbridge then spurned a great opportunity as Solomon Ogunwomoju stole the ball off a defender and raced through on goal , with just the keeper to beat he delayed his shot allowing Wright to make the initial stop before he then fired the rebound wide.

Redbridge were seeing plenty of the ball especially down the right through Ogunwomoju , they came closest when skipper Joseph Elliott saw his shot fly wide of the upright..

That proved to be the last action of what was largely an uneventful first half.

Into the second period and Willie Clemons ran onto a through ball , seeing Nwabuko off his line he attempted a lob which landed the wrong side of the bar.

The away side were dominating proceedings however Redbridge were defending well in numbers, they almost scored when a powerful header was tipped onto the crossbar by Nwabuko.

A rare break forward from the home side as Doriano Tanzillo on his first start saw his shot from distance fail to trouble Wright.

Continued pressure from the away side as Samuel Ford saw his deflected effort almost beat Nwabuko however he was able to palm the ball away , the rebounded effort was then well blocked.

Superb defending saw Redbridge defenders throwing their bodies on the line to deny the league leaders however they needed the crossbar to come to their rescue again as a ball was crossed into the box and smashed first time beating the dive of Nwabuko.

Redbridge were hanging on as they continued to frustrate their opponents who thought they had scored when the ball was fired in from distance into the back of the net with Nwabuko off his line however a raised flag by the assistant denied the goal much to the frustration of the Felixstowe players and bench, one of whom was shown a red card for venting his anger.

With 5 minutes of added time indicated Redbridge thought they had held on for the point only to be denied right at the death when a cross from Joshua Hitter was palmed away but fell at the feet of Thomas Warren who chested then fired a fierce drive into the back of the net to jubilant scenes.

A big victory for the away side who stay top however It proved to be cruel on the home side whom had defended so resolutely in the second half.
