The Motormen made the midweek journey down the A127 to Basildon United with Manager Chris Taylor facing his former employers just a week after leaving them whilst new Bees boss Billy Cove was in the home dugout for the first time.
Redbridge were looking to push on from their superb weekend victory over Walthamstow and lined up with the same starting eleven , the only change to the bench saw ex Basildon player Karl Kayembe replacing Rodney Botuli.
The home side started well with most of their play coming via the right through the energetic Nidal Berri , on two occasions he was able to shoot however both times saw the ball fly well over the bar.
Redbridge first venture up field saw a teasing free kick whipped in by Jack Chawner searching for the back post where Olamiji Ayoola was not far from making a connection.
Moments later and from an identical position Chawner again put over a perfect ball which fell behind the Basildon defence and running in to get the final touch was Solomon Ogunwomoju who fired home past a stranded Max Spence.
The away side spurred on by their goal came forward again , the same partnership of Chawner and Ogunwomoju almost resulting in another goal but this time the striker was unable to keep his header down.
It was not however long before they did double their lead, a lovely Joseph Elliott pass beat the last defender and coming in was Ogunwomoju who rounded the keeper before slotting into an empty net.
Basildon to their credit never let their heads drop and came ever so close to pulling a goal back when Ryan Sammons saw his powerful low drive fire inches past Samuel Nwabuko’s post.
Back at the other end and Ogunwomoju almost grabbed his hattrick as his cross cum shot rebounded back off the bar before being cleared up field by a Basildon defender.
Into the second period and as expected the home side came out with more of an attacking emphasis as they forced an early series of corners.
Redbridge did have a good opportunity to score when Tendai Quamina was played in by Malachi Napa however the young striker decided to cut back inside a defender before shooting first time and with that the opportunity vanished as the ball was well blocked.
Napa then then put through Fotsing Pitoula Wabo who took a good touch before shooting however Spence was quickly off his line to make the stop.
On 67 minutes Basildon got themselves back in the game, a corner was swung in towards the near post and flicked goal wards requiring Nwabuko to push away but only onto the head of Berri who was able to knock home from close range.
The remaining 20 minutes saw the home side apply pressure to the Redbridge back line as they went in search of an equaliser however they defended well in numbers restricting the Bees to any further clear cut opportunities and were able to see out the victory and make it back to back wins.
