Redbridge’s long losing run in the league continued as they were beaten by Wroxham at Oakside.

Buoyed by their FA Trophy success over Arlesey in midweek, Redbridge made a strong start and had the better of the early exchanges, without creating any considerable opportunities.

And having weathered the early storm, Wroxham built their way gradually into the game with the first genuine chance coming from a low cross which could not be turned in.

The Yachtsmen’s grip on the game began to tighten as Charlie Parish mistimed a tackle on the corner of the six yard box, conceding a penalty.

But surprisingly, the subsequent spot-kick was tame and well saved by the firm hand of Mark Parker between the posts.
Pressure continued to mount before Oliver Ebbage met a pinpoint cross four yards out to head home and give the away side the lead midway through the first half.

Motormen recovered well as Jamie Alexandrou fizzed in a dangerous cross which evaded the boot of three advancing attackers.

The home side’s growing optimism was snuffed out shortly before half time, however, as hesitancy in defence left Matt Halliday unmarked at the back post to sidefoot the ball into a vacant net from a curling free kick, doubling Wroxham’s lead.

The second half began with a flurry of shots from Joe Gent, who looked dangerous all match.

And Daniel Jones later found himself with time inside the area, but managed only to hit the side netting.

In truth, the half lacked the intensity seen earlier in the game, with few moments worth highlighting despite Redbridge’s renewed efforts.

Motormen have not enjoyed Ryman North success since their mid-August win over Brightlingsea Regent, suffering 10 successive losses.

Their latest defeat means that the team now drop into the bottom two and will need to find the character to turn their fortunes around
given the unremitting fixtures that follow, starting with Tuesday’s home meeting against Tilbury.
