Motormen Unable to Hold on for Win

Adam Silver29 Nov 2015 - 19:37

Redbridge surrendered a two goal lead to end up drawing 2-2 at home to local rivals Barkingside.

Both sides went into this massive six pointer desperate for the points as they tried to push themselves away from the relegation zone.

The Motormen were handed a dream start after just a minute when a Joe Gent cross was alleged to be handled by a Barkingside defender and the referee pointed straight to the spot. Jay Knight stepped up to score his 10th goal of the season.

The home side had a good chance to extend their lead when William Drake put in Gent but his effort was well pushed away by Darren Bechet in goal.

The game started to become very scrappy with both sides guilty of giving away possession cheaply.

Barkingside has their best effort when a good cross from Michael Spencer found the tall figure of Luke With and his headed effort appeared to be aiming for the bottom corner but Callum Chafer in goal got down well to claw the ball away.

Redbridge ended the half much the stronger and were having much success out on the flanks through wingers Gent and Reside Coxi Sebastfao.

The 2nd half started identical to the 1st half and Redbridge soon doubled their lead when Gent's cross hit a bunch of players before rebounding off a post straight into the path of Coxi-Sebastfao who made no mistake from 5 yards out.

Shortly after Knight played a lovely pass setting off Jordan Cornelius down the right wing and his long cross led to a Redbridge corner although it came to nothing.

Barkingside soon after started to get on top and Ryan Hevel saw his headed effort gladly fall into the arms of Callum Chafer. The away sided id get themselves back into the match with 18 minutes remaining when a deflected effort from substitute Jonathan Nzengo found its way past Chafer.

The goal spurred the away side on and they grabbed the equaliser on 82 minutes when the Redbridge defence failed to clear a corner and Tyronne Scarlett pounced on a loose ball to stab home. In truth the goal was coming and well deserved for the attitude and desire that Barkingside were showing.

It was the away team who looked most likely to grab the winner in the dying minutes but in the end both sides had to settle for the point which was far from ideal .
