Both sides went into this six pointer with Redbridge just the one space and point above their opponents who both found themselves at the wrong end of the table.

Abbey were forced to make an early change when Ellis Lentell was stretchered with a suspected dislocated knee and was replaced by Darelle Russell.

The away side were looking the stronger with the lively Christian Assombalonga and Ryan Blackman in particular causing trouble down the right wing.

The best chance of the match soon fell to Waltham Abbey when a long ball from captain Sam Robbins found Assombalonga who headed the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper Callum Chafer and with the ball heading for goal Redbridge captain Timi Dorgu managed to get back just in time to hook the ball off the line and away to safety.

The only real chance of the 1st half for Redbridge came through the lively Rigers Kabashi but his effort was wide of the target.

Into the 2nd period and it was Kabashi again this time skipping past two defenders before he rifled an effort just wide of Aaron Omand's post.

Redbridge soon after took the lead when good work out on the right by Jay Knight saw his cross poked home by William Drake who managed to just get in front of his marker.

Redbridge keeper Callum Chafer then kept the home team in it by making a superb double save. First he tipped Tom Wood's effort around the post for a corner and then got himself up to make another great stop this time from Elliott Johnson's header before Russell drilled the ball wide.

The home side looked most likely to increase their lead but there was to be no further goals and it was the Motormen who registered the all important three points to keep themselves out of the relegation positions.
