Ten man Redbridge went down 4-1 at Bury Town however the final score line was rather harsh and certainly did not represent the overall game.
The Motormen travelled to Suffolk in confident mood after their last minute 4-3 win against Wroxham on Saturday however this rearranged fixture meant it difficult to take a full squad to this Tuesday night fixture and saw only 3 substitutes named on the bench including joint manager Ricky Eaton.
The home side came out the blocks strongest and forced an early chance which failed to trouble Sam Sargeant in the Redbridge goal. It was the away side however who took an early lead when a long ball up field fell at the feet of striker Charlie Portway who looked up and with the Bury goalkeeper Neil O’Sullivan way off his line he lobbed the ball over him into an empty net, it certainly was a goal his father and ex Gravesend legendary Striker Steve would have been proud of.
The goal certainly buoyed on the away side who were looking very dangerous on the counter attack and both Reside Coxi-Sebastfao and Ayomide Adeboxejo had shots which required saving.
The best chance of the half for the home side came when Remi Garrett saw his effort comfortably saved. Most of the play for Bury Town was coming through the lively Daniel Hammett and he was trying his upmost to help his side back into the game which eventually came via a long throw in which was flicked onto the head of Ollie Hughes who made no mistake from close range.
Both sides went into the break level although the away side will feel disappointed that from chances created that they should have been leading.
A good move from Redbridge saw a cross from Paulis Ditkevicius which found the head of Portway but went just wide off the goal. As expected the home side started to gain the upper hand and were handed an advantage when Redbridge were reduced to ten men when Charlie Parish saw red for a rash challenge.
It was now a case of backs to the wall for the Motormen as they tried to hold on for the point but the away side were shortly after awarded a penalty when Coxi Sebastfao was adjudged to have held back his man and Josh Mayhew ran up and sent Sargeant diving the wrong way to put his side infront. The Redbridge bench were annoyed with the decision and felt that maybe the vocal home crowd behind the goal had somehow helped with the decision.
With minutes remaining the home side further increased their lead when substitute Nick Ingram waltzed his way through the Redbridge defence and fired home past the despairing dive of Sargeant at full stretch. To make matters worse they then scored a forth goal when Mayhew grabbed his 2nd of the game with a similar strike to that of Ingram and with that gave Bury the 3 points and leave Redbridge in 22nd position 2 points from safety.
