Cray Come Back Strong

Cray Come Back Strong

Adam Silver6 Feb 2016 - 22:44

A strong 2nd half come back from Cray Wanderers saw them eventually run out 4-2 winners

In very gusty conditions Redbridge hosted Cray Wanderers who had slipped down the table to 5th in recent weeks after a poor run which had seen them lose 5 of their previous 7 matches.

The first chance fell to the away side when Leigh Bremner picked the ball up before turning inside his marker and firing in an effort that sailed over the bar.

A great chance shortly after for the Motormen to open the scoring when Reside Coxi-Sebastfao latched onto a Paulius Ditkevicius ball and found himself with just the keeper to beat his shot went just wide of the post.

Cray then put a good ball into the box through Ben Hunt and Callum Chafer could only spill the ball before bringing it under control at the second attempt just before the striker got to the ball.

From a short corner Rigers Kabashi almost caught out Cray keeper Nick Blue who needed quick reactions to turn the ball away from sneaking under the bar.

The home side took the lead when a fumble by Blue in goal saw the ball drop at the feet of Charlie Portway and he made no mistake simply tapping the ball into an empty net. Redbridge were in confident mood as they broke forward once again and this time Ditkevicius saw his long range effort go over the bar,.

Cray were living dangerously at the back and a loose pass fell at the feet of Coxi-Sebastfao who was through on goal but a defender got back just in time to clear.

Kabashi was then disspossed in the middle of the pitch by James Duckworth who ran down on goal and only a great save from Chafer denied what seemed to be the equalising goal meaning the home side went in at the break a goal to the good.

With the wind now in their favour Cray began the 2nd period well and Chafer was called upon to make a good stop from a Grant Basey shot. Redbridge were almost made to pay after a bad back pass by Stephen Good saw Chafer clear the ball upfield but it rebounded back off a Cray player and forunately cleared the crossbar.

Cray deservedly got back on level terms after a good move which started in their own defence after Ditkevicius was well tackled by Sean Roberts and he passed to Duckworth who in turn found Ben Hunt who curled the ball into the goal .

Within 3 minutes and the game was now turned on its head as Cray took the lead after Duckworth's first effort was blocked but the ball found kindly back to him and this time he made no mistake slotting home.

It was so nearly 3 with only the fingertips of Chafer denying Hunt from scoring with a great curling effort. The save proved vital as Redbridge then went straight up the other end and scored as a loose ball fell at the feet of Coxi Sebastfao who drilled home to register his 4th goal in as many matches.

The match was not swinging from end to end as both sides looked to get the win and it was Cray who regained the lead. A poor decision against Rigers Kabashi led to a free kick in a dangerous positon and Duckworth stepped up to curl the ball home past the diving Chafer.

It was soon game over when a through ball found Hunt who outpaced his marker before slotting home his 2nd of the game and wrapping up the 3 points.
