Raining Goals at Oakside

Adam Silver21 Feb 2016 - 13:06

In pouring conditions it was raining goals but unfortunately Redbridge were on the receiving end of a 6-1 humiliating defeat to Romford.

Redbridge hosted Romford at a cold and very wet Oakside in a match where anything less than 3 points for the home side would leave them in a perilous position.

It proved nothing short of a nightmare for the home side as they conceded six times and now have a mountain to climb to avoid relegation from the Ryman North with just 10 matches remaining. AJ Adelekan returned to the home side's defence along with the recently resigned Hussainou Jaffa whilst ex Spurs keeper Stefan Freund's son Niklas was named on the bench..

The first attempt of the game came from Romford when a Nick Reynolds effort was gathered into the safe arms of Callum Chafer. A great chance for Redbridge followed when Paulius Ditkevicius fed Reside Coxi Sebastfao who held off his marker and got his shot on target however it was well saved by Michael Gooch,

Romford were then denied a goal after a 30 yard screamer from Jamie Dicks seemed to be heading for the top corner however it was superbly tipped away by the diving Chafer.

The away side were slowly getting on top however the home side broke away down the left flank and Coxi Sebastfao whipped in a dangerous cross which James Ishmail headed away to safety.

Dicks then headed a good opportunity over before Romford did eventually take the lead, a poor defensive clearance fell at the feet of substitute Joe Scott who took his time before picking his spot and firing home.

Redbridge ended the half with a good chance from a corner which fell to Ditkevicius who curled an effort which went just wide of the post.

Both sides ran out for the 2nd period however there was only ever one side in it as Romford went onto score a further five times.

Ade Cole waltzed his way through the home defence before the ball was eventually cleared away for a corner which was swung in and with Redbridge failing to clear the ball finally fell at the feet of Scott who had the simple task of tapping in his 2nd of the game. Things immediately went from bad to worse for the home side as they conceded yet another goal when Tom Potter got in on the act.

Within a minute Redbridge did a goal back from striker Charlie Portway however it was to be purely a consolation. Romford were now attacking with menace and looked like scoring each time they broke forward, the 3rd goal did come soon after when Nick Reynolds went through and slotted home.

Only the post then prevented Scott from his hat-trick after he broke free and although his effort beat Chafer it bounced back off the upright. They however were not to be denied again and Tom Anderson curled a lovely effort leaving Chafer with no chance.

Romford sub Danny Cossington then missed a great opportunity to make it six when he scuffed his effort in the mud. A rare attack from the home side was wasted as Reside Coxi Sebastfao picked up the ball in space but blasted his chance well over the bar.

Romford had not finished the scoring there and a free kick was drilled home by Dicks evading everyone before nestling into the back of the net to complete an emphatic victory.
