Late Crossley Goal Sinks Potters

Adam Dennehey23 Mar 2011 - 19:59

A headed goal deep into injury time by Sean Crossley (pic) sealed a great night for the Motormen, as they came from behind to beat Potters Bar 2-1.

The win marked Jody Brown's first home win as manager of the club. In fact it was the first home win at the Oakside Stadium in 2011 and was a win that Jody and the team thoroughly deserved after a terrific second half performance from the boys.

In fairness to the visitors – Potters Bar – they started the game the better side and deservedly took a half time lead. Redbridge could not keep the ball well in the first half and only created one effort on goal through Lee Townrow which was easily saved by Bar’s keeper.

Bar’s Jose Espinoza was causing trouble for the Motormen’s defence and he was unlucky to see a shot from a tight angle narrowly go wide of the far post. Not long after that Louis Collins saw a drive go over from 20 yards as Bar began to take control of the game.

Bar took the lead in first half injury time when Elivs Balic timed his run into the box well to stroke home a Luke Croll cross. Elliott Justham in goal standing no chance as the ball found it’s way into the bottom corner of the net.

Redbridge came out better after half time and had chances to get back into the game within the opening stages of the half. Craig Arnott saw a volley go over after a good ball into the box from fellow Colchester United loanee Bradley Hamilton. Not long after that Kevin McLeod saw a free-kick go narrowly over the bar with Bar’s keeper Shane McWeeney well beaten.

Just after the hour mark the Motormen got their equaliser. Kyle Fraser-Allen did well down the left, skilfully beating his marker before putting a brilliant ball into the box, which Townrow powerfully headed home to mark his first goal for the club since rejoining from Sudbury.

With momentum on Redbridge’s side, Brown made changes to bring more energy onto the park. After seeing some half-chances go begging, it looked as if it’d be another 1-1 draw at the Oakside, however that was not to be the case.

Substitute Julian Edwards did well to win a freekick out on the wide in the third minute of injury time. Using all his football league experience, McLeod sent in a gleaming ball into the box right in the danger zone where Crossley was on hand at the far post to head the ball back across goal and into the net.

It was a thrilling end to the game and one that sent the players, staff and home supporters home happy after seeing a great game of football.

Redbridge: Elliott Justham, Bradley Hamilton, Tom Stephen, Julian Ashby, Glen Golby (Jack Crawley 78), Kyle Fraser-Allen, Lee Townrow, Craig Arnott (Julian Edwards 85), Kevin McLeod, Elie Kayembe (Shane Stamp 80).
