Romford Cause Further Misery

Romford Cause Further Misery

Adam Dennehey13 Apr 2011 - 19:07

Redbridge slumped to their fourth league defeat in a row as visiting Romford’s energetic performance proved too much for Jody Brown’s Motormen.

The win marked Romford’s first win in six games and was a good way for them to bounce back after a recent defeat at home to Brentwood,

Redbridge almost found themselves a goal down inside the third minute, but luckily for them Kurt Smith was unable to control a difficult ball into his path and shot wide much to the relief of the home support.

Paul Martin’s side were not holding back and up front they were looking dangerous and after five minutes they took the lead. Ex-Redbridge striker Alex Read made up for dragging a shot wide by playing in Chris Barry through on goal who shot past Edward Wooten in goal for the Motormen to score.

Lee Townrow almost hit back a couple of minutes later for Redbridge, but Romford’s keeper Elliott Anderson stopped his shot and parried the ball away to safety.

With Romford’s midfield beginning to take hold of the game, more and more dangerous balls were being put through to their forwards. Read was unlucky not to score when after running onto Abs Seymour’s, his delicate lob came back of the bar and away to safety.

After half time, Redbridge came out looking confident and should have equalised 10 minutes into the half. Brilliant play from Shane Stamp took three Romford players out of the game in the heart of midfield, but when the ball broke to the unmarked Julian Edwards on the edge of the box sadly for the Motormen, the experienced striker could only shoot straight at Anderson who comfortably parried the ball away.

Sadly for Edwards, his miss was to prove a costly one as not long after Romford doubled their lead. Moments after Seymour blazed a shot over for the visitors, A long ball upfield from Junior Dinatoma picked out the pacey Read up front. Though Read saw his first attempt hit the bar, he was quick to get the rebound and he clinically hammered home to put Romford seemingly in full control.

Stamp though was not going to let Romford comfortably win the game and a good run from him down his wing proved too much for his marker who hauled him down inside the box.

It was an obvious penalty which the referee duly gave. Lee Townrow stepped up confidently and hammered the ball home to bring Redbridge right back into the game.

It was the midfielder’s 11th league goal of the season and his third since rejoining the club in March.

Despite Brown bringing on Elie Kayembe and Manlee Brown to add power and pace up front, neither striker saw much of the ball Romford grabbed control back of the game.

With time running out, the visitors scored a third when Mbala Manzeidi’s pass found Kurt Smith who after sidestepping his marker drove the ball into the right hand corner giving Wooten no chance.

Redbridge: Edward Wooten, Julian Ashby (Alexander O'Leary 84), Liam Bailey, Jonathan Glowacki, Sean Crossley, Glen Golby, Shane Stamp (Manlee Brown 68), Hyun-Jin Lee, Julian Edwards (Elie Kayembe 68), Lee Townrow, Kyle Fraser-Allen.

After the game I caught up with our manager Jody Brown after the game and found out his take on the result. To download and hear the interview go to http://www.mediafire.com/?0kkg5g50kdkvsae.
