Great Win At Tilbury

Great Win At Tilbury

Adam Dennehey13 Mar 2011 - 08:54

Redbridge got a vital 2-0 win at table-rivals Tilbury. Second half goals from Julian Edwards (pic) and Craig Arnott earning the win for the Motormen.

In a game which was always going to be huge for both teams, the first half was quite tight with both teams struggling to play with the ball going long and mostly out of play.

The only talking point was an off the ball incident involving Harry Cook and Sean Crossley forcing Harry Cook to be substituted but seeing Crossley go unpunished.

In the second half, Tilbury searched the lead, however they was caught on a break and resulted in Manlee Brown hitting the bar for Redbridge against his previous employees. Brown of course scored Tilbury's equaliser in their 1-1 draw against the Motormen last month at the Oakside and Jody Brown was delighted to have brought Manlee to the club.

Not long afterwards, Redbridge got their lead that their play deserved on 58 minutes. As the ball was given away cheaply in the visitors half Tilbury got punished as Julian Ashby forced the ball towards goal where James Marrable could only parry out to Julian Edwards path who steered the ball home. It was the experienced striker's second goal of the season and one that was certainly long overdue.

Tilburys only key chance came just three minutes later when Mustafa’s curling shot was tipped over well by Justham to keep the score the same.

With time running out, Redbridge caught Tilbury on a counter attack where after a good move Kevin Coyle’s shot was saved well by Marrable only to see Craig Arnott follow on and tap it home to seal the points with 5 minutes left. It was the youngster's first goal for the club since singing on loan from Colchester and one that fans of both Redbridge and Colchester would have been pleased to see.

A great win for Jody Brown's Redbridge and one that should go some way to securing the club's league status for this season, as the win extended our gap over struggling Waltham Forest who look odds-on now to finish bottom.
