Redbridge Win in Early Kick Of

Adam Dennehey27 Mar 2011 - 19:17

Redbridge cruised to a 3-1 win at Great Wakering Rovers to move up to 16th in the league, completing a league double over Rovers this season.

The Motormen started the game brightly and it took just 10 minutes to unlock the Rovers defence. Ex-Rover Manlee Brown sending in a great cross to the near post, which Shane Stamp prodded home inside the area.

Edward Wooten was making his debut in goal for the Motormen and he made a smart save not long after Stamp's goal blocking a Joe Gardner shot that was heading goal-wards.

Redbridge doubled their lead on 26 minutes when Craig Arnott finished of a good team move when his shot through a number of players found the back of the net, leaving Louis Godwin-Green in goal for Roves unsighted and with no chance.

Godwin-Green did though see an Arnott shot moments later denying the Colchester United loanee his second of the game, with a superb one handed reflex save to his right. Still though Redbridge went into half time 2-0 up and thoroughly in control.

After the restart Rovers improved with Ross Wall rattling the post with a powerful shot after a good one-two with Jack Carlile.

With the game out of reach for the hosts, Redbridge wrapped the game up with 19 minutes left. A sweet strike from Lee Townrow from 20 yards was just out of reach for Godwin-Green and the ball flew into the net. It was Townrow's second goal of the week and one that the midfielder deserved.

On the stroke of full time, Rovers managed to grab a goal denying Wooten a clean sheet when Gardner side-footed home past the keeper following a flicked ball over the Motormen's defence from Carlile.

It was too little, too late for the hosts as Jody Brown's Redbridge sealed their 9th league win of the season to seal a fine away win for the boys.

Edward Wooten, Julian Ashby, Tom Stephen, Liam Bailey, Sean Crossley, Bradley Hamilton, Shane Stamp, Lee Townrow (Julian Edwards 75), Manlee Brown, Craig Arnott, Kevin McLeod.
