Regent Frustrate Motormen

Adam Silver4 Oct 2025 - 19:49

Redbridge were held to a goalless draw at home to Brightlingsea Regent however exend their unbeaten run to six matches and five clean sheets.

Redbridge went into this home clash v Brightlingsea Regent in good form five on the back of a five match unbeaten run with keeper Samuel Nwabuko keeping four consecutive clean sheets.

The only change to the Motormen starting line up was in defence with a straight swap as Kai Thomas Fraser replaced the missing Olamii Ayoola.

Regent meanwhile came into the match fresh from a midweek Velocity Cup win however league form was poor with just the one league victory so far this season which had them sitting in the bottom three.

The early stages saw a tight affair with no real chances created ,  the closest coming from the home side when a Jack Chawner free-kick evaded everyone in the box and went just wide of the upright.

Chawner then played a lovely cross field ball which set Malachi Napa free down the left , his whipped cross was cut out by Regent keeper Luke Avenell.

Soumen Nandi then came forward down the right getting to the touch line before cutting the ball back into the path of Solomon Ogunwomoju who saw his shot blocked.

At the other end Shane Temple got the better of Redbridge captain Henry Day before trying for the spectacular but his effort flew well wide.

Redbridge were now starting to find their rhythm ,  Karl Kayembe showed good strength to get carry the ball upfield ,  he found Napa who feinted to shoot before cutting inside a defender and then firing agonisingly wide.

Good work out wide by Regent's Samson Bello saw him win his side a corner,  from the resulting kick Temple won his header but Nwabuko was able to gather.

The best chance of the game followed when Joseph Johnson flung over a great cross which was hit first time on the volley by Napa ,  the ball looked to be heading into the bottom corner but Avenell was quickly down to palm away for a  corner.

Avenell again had to be alert turning away another Napa effort before Ogunwomoju got himself into the box only to fire across the goal and out of play.

Redbridge started the second half on the front foot ,   Ogunwomoju thought he had put his side ahead when he headed home a Chawner free-kick however a flag on the far side was raised for offside.

Kayembe then saw a chance drop wide with Avenell quickly scrambling across his goal

The away side then had a spell of pressure ,  Callum Harrison striking a fierce volley which was deflected away for a corner before the same player seeing  Nwabuko out of goal went for the long range effort but failed to execute the lob,   this was then followed by a Finlay Adams shot which was caught by a diving Nwabuko.

At the other end Ogunwomoju saw his deep cross almost drop under the bar ,  Avenell having to tip over for a corner.

A dangerous cross by Luca Terminello failed to find any team mates as Redbridge managed to clear the danger.

A final roll of the dice saw the Motormen make a double substitution but Regent held firm to earn themselves a much valued point after a strong defensive display.

Redbridge will feel this a case of two points dropped however a further clean sheet sees them extend their unbeaten run.
