In a tight clash between two sides separated by a single league position, 5th-placed Redbridge edged out Bowers & Pitsea at the TECHSOC.com Arena, securing a gritty 2–1 victory and their first home win since September.
The Motormen began brightly, with club stalwart Jack Chawner, fresh off making his 200th appearance, firing narrowly wide in the early stages. Their strong start soon paid off: Malachi Napa finished confidently after meeting a pin-point cross from Prince Sikiru, who had done brilliantly down the right to create the opening.
Despite Redbridge’s early control, Bowers & Pitsea grew into the contest. After seeing a couple of attempts blocked, they found their equaliser when Ross Wall was left unmarked in the box, guiding a header past the stranded Samuel Nwabuko.
The visitors looked the more settled side after drawing level, but it was Redbridge who regained the advantage. A corner caused chaos in the Bowers area, and Karl Kayembe reacted quickest, turning the ball in from close range to restore the hosts’ lead.
Redbridge came inches from extending their advantage early in the second half. Solomon Ogunwmoju almost diverted a deep Soumen Nandi cross inside the far post with a looping header. Moments later, Napa’s persistence kept the ball alive on the byline, only for his cross to find
Nandi unmarked just yards from goal — but the winger could only steer wide in what felt like a pivotal miss.
Bowers & Pitsea pushed hard in response. A goal-bound effort was cleared off the line, and they thought they had equalised when the ball hit the net moments later, only for celebrations to be cut short by an offside flag on the far side.
Substitute Fotsing Pitoula-Wabo then tested Redbridge keeper Joseph Whitney, who gathered comfortably, but the closing stages belonged firmly to the visitors.
With eight minutes of added time, Redbridge were left holding on under sustained pressure as Bowers & Pitsea searched desperately for an equaliser. But the Motormen remained resolute, defending bravely to see out a vital win that keeps their momentum alive and strengthens their push near the top end of the table.
