Redbridge started brightly with Ben Bradbury heading against the bar after 45 seconds. After 5 minutes though Great Wakering broke loose on the left hand side and after good work by Sam Lake found Danny Curran in the area. Curran had his shot blocked but George Artemi was on hand to beat a couple of defenders and shot in the penalty area to make it 1-0
Redbridge soon came to light and pressed hard with the Great Wakering goalkeeper Louis Godwin-Green making some good saves. After 24 minutes Great Wakering again broke on the left but fortunately for us, their Michael Pindey shot across goal and the ball went to safety for a Redbridge goal kick.
Redbridge continually tried hard to break down the home defence but goalkeeper Godwin-Green was in top form. We paid the price on 26 minutes when their tricky number 11 Curran beat our defence again, run towards our goal and found himself one on one with the advancing Redbridge keeper Wooten to beat. Poor Edward Wooten slipped and the next second the ball was in the net giving Great Wakering a 2-0 lead.
After 36 minutes Vinnie Durrant came off with a knock and was replaced with Mitchell Das took his place. The change made a difference and we began to get ourselves more into the game. A great through ball just outside the Great Wakering penalty area found Aarun Best but he slipped just as he was about to let fly.
Again in the 41st minutes an excellent move by four Redbridge players had the home defence in tangles. Getting into the six yard box we then had three attempts (through Dan Trenkel, Nathan Gordon and Billy Hunt) but each time the back line inspired by Godwin-Green were able to get the ball away. Although in control and as much as we tried we just could not get that first goal and went into the break 2-0 down.
The second half began as the first half had finished with Redbridge seeing chances blocked. As the half wore on the Motormen's pressure finally told and on 61 minutes Gordon ran ten or so yards and with the Great Wakering defence committed he passed to Das who calmly slotted home at the second attempt.
Just two minutes later Ryan Murray took over from Billy Hunt, who just minutes later took a great pass from Gordon to tuck it in and bring the score level at 2-2.
With everything now to play for Great Wakering did try and come back but our lads were now on top controlling the match. A great long throw by Billy Sendall made life very hard for the Wakering defence and on 78 minutes a great lofted pass from man of the match Gordon found Murray by the six yard box and he headed in the third which proved to be the winning goal.
Despite late pressure from the hosts Redbridge held onto secure their second league win of the season, thanks to two smart saves late on by Wooten. It had been a great comeback by the Motormen!
Redbridge: Edward Wooten, Billy Sendall, Tommy Spillane, Aarun Best, Glen Golby, Dan Trenkel, Ben Bradbury (Jamie Haywood 79), Lewis Dark, Nathan Gordon, Billy Hunt (Ryan Murray 62) Vinnie Durrant (Mitchell Das 36).
