Motormen Triumph at Grays

Adam Silver12 Jan 2012 - 12:56

Redbridge put in a gard working performance and were rewarded with a 2-0 win over Grays Athletic, our goals coming from Ryan Wade and Nathan Gordon.

Redbridge were made to work hard but came away with a deserved 3 points and in doing so recorded their first win over their opponents since 2003.

The Home side started the game much the brighter as they went in search of their third consecutive win and had early chances through Leon Mckenzie and Kenny Beaney.

Uncertainly between Matt Tuprin and keeper Joe Wright left the goal unguarded but Grays were unable to take advantage. Danny Bunce making his 100th appearance for the club then had the best chance of the match as he cut inside the area but his shot lacked pace and fell kindly into the arms of Wright.

Redbridge waited until the 15th minute before they got out their own half and the pace of Nathan Gordon out on the right wing saw him break free and his cross just eluded Ryan Wade at the far post who was just a toe away from making connection. Minutes later however and the Motormen took the lead after a free kick was awarded 20 yards out, Vincent Durrant stepped up as he looked for the top left corner but it was Wade who stepped forward and beat ex Redbridge keeper Tony Tucker down low at his right post.

Redbridge were now having plenty of possession as the game opened up and Tucker was becoming the busier of the two goalkeepers as he saved a Durrant free kick before Gordon headed a Wade cross just over the bar.
Into the second half and Grays started the same as they did in the first as they came out looking for the equaliser which they thought they had but Joao Carlos’s effort was ruled offside. Beaney then had the best chance of the match for the home side as he created space for himself beating two defenders only to see his shot beat Wright and hit the post before rolling across the goal line and then going out of play, it was certainly a huge let off for Redbridge.

Grays were having the major share of play but the centre back pairing of Glen Golby and Turpin were immense and continued to head every ball out which came their way which continued to frustrate the home side. This boiled over when Beaney was booked for a rash challenge which saw him pick up his 2nd yellow card and was duly sent from the field of play.

With just two minutes remaining Nathan Gordon wrapped up the win for Redbridge, Joe Gardner was fouled but the ball fell to Gordon who was in a good attacking position and the referee correctly allowed play to continue and he shot across Tucker and into the back of the net.
Joe Gardner could have made it three moments later but this time Tucker who had an indifferent night was first to the ball.

The last chance of the game fell to Grays but Joe Wright stood firm to save the header. The referee blew the final whistle to signal an excellent win for the motormen who move up to 12th position with matches in hand over many sides above them as they look towards a play off position.

Redbridge: Joe Wright, Jamie Haywood, Vinnie Durrant, Matt Turpin, Glen Golby, Daniel Hopkins, Ben Bradbury, Michael Toner, Joe Gardner (Micthell Das), Ryan Wade (Lewis Dark), Nathan Gordon
