Ware Defeated At A Sunny Oakside

Ware Defeated At A Sunny Oakside

Adam Dennehey24 Mar 2012 - 19:49

A fine second-half performance kept Redbridge’s play-off dreams alive as they defeated a gritty Ware on the brightest of afternoons at the Oakside.

In a goalless first-half Redbridge impressed but lacked that little bit of ruthlessness at key times which denied them from taking a lead going into half-time. Joe Gardner was working hard in midfield and saw an early shot saved.

Shane Wyllie was looking lively when switching to the flanks. One cross from the right almost picked out James Robinson to score inside the area but Michael Akande was on-hand to clear the danger.

Jamie Haywood skewed a shot wide from a Michael Toner cross before Billy Sendall’s long-throw forced Rhys Madden to tip the ball over with Matt Turpin captaining the side lurking at the back post ready to head the ball home.

Ware did their best to make life difficult for the Motormen and their best chances to score came just before the break with Tim Querry seeing a free-kick go over before Aime Blessing forced Joe Wright into a save at his near-post.

After the break Redbridge immediately pressurised Ware. Good work by Wyllie enabled Lewis Dark to feed Jamie Haywood out wide who crossed for Das to flick back for Robinson whose shot on turn was saved by Madden.

A wonderful reverse pass by Daniel Hopkins beautifully picked out Das in the area who turned his marker before seeing a low shot, which would have crept-in, tipped by Madden onto the bottom of the post.

Ware finally cracked on the hour-mark when Toner’s volley at the back-post was met by Robinson who intelligently stabbed the ball home at the second attempt for his sixth goal of the season. Madden this time stood no chance.

Scorer turned provider three minutes later when Robinson picked out Das with the outside of his foot and the youngster cleverly stroked the ball home for his fifth goal of the season and his fourth since the turn of the year.

Ryan Murray was brought on from the bench for Wyllie and the powerhouse was soon making his presence felt winning every ball that came his way. He almost scored from a Toner cross but somehow his bullet-header was saved by Madden.

Das then should have made it 3-0 but after getting behind Ware's defence tucked the ball wide after rounding Madden much to the shock of his team-mates who expected the ball to nestle in the back of the net.

With Sendall and Joe Wright picking up knocks in the second-half Terry Spillane no doubt would have wanted his side to comfortably see the game out. After Murray saw a header ruled out for a foul, he would have been furious with the way that Ware got a consolation a minute from time.

Turpin strangely decided against playing a long-ball upfield opting to pass it to a limping Wright whose clearance found Ware substitute Sonny Silenti who had the simple task of tapping the ball home to the disbelief of the fans in attendance at the Oakside.

Redbridge though like good teams didn’t panic and saw out the three minutes of stoppage-time even going close to scoring a third when Robinson struck a low shot narrowly wide of Madden’s near-post after good work once again by Murray.

Redbridge: Joe Wright, William Sendall, Daniel Hopkins, Matt Turpin, Jamie Haywood, Michael Toner, Joe Gardner, Lewis Dark, Shane Wyllie (Ryan Murray 55), James Robinson, Mitchell Das (Eddie Hart 78).
