Motormen Beaten by League Leaders

Motormen Beaten by League Leaders

Adam Silver7 Oct 2018 - 10:15

An improved display unfortunately ended with defeat as Redbridge lost 1-0 to league leaders Hullbridge Sports

The Motormen hosted unbeaten and top of the table Hullbridge Sports as they look to end their recent poor run of home form which has seen them lose their last three matches. In driving rain it was the home side who started the stronger pegging back their opponents however the first chance did fall to Heybridge when Luke Hornsley played ex-Redbridge striker Nathan Scarborough who saw his shot well saved down low by Lewis Greene away turning the ball out for a corner.

At the other end Larry Asare was looking lively and he had a chance after Hullbridge failed to clear but his effort was easily held by Geoge Marsh in goal. Once again poor play from the away side gifted possession to Redbridge and Jack Stevenson picked the ball up from distance before shooting from distance beating Marsh before rebounding back off the crossbar.

Redbridge continued to create chances and Stevenson played a nice pass into the feet of Calvin Poku who superbly turned a defended but just as he went to shoot he slipped on the wet surface and skewed his shot wide of the post.

The Redbridge striker once again found himself in a good position but as he pulled the trigger a Hullbridge defender did well to get a challenge in which took the power out of the shot and allowed the ball to b safely gathered by Marsh.

Hullbridge then came forward through defender Matt Dicks who saw his cross come shot almost catch Greene off guard however fortunately for him the ball just went over the bar.

Dicks again had space to run at the home defence before letting fly from range but his attempt was off target before a Jimmy Cox snap shot was firmly held by Greene.

Dicks again was allowed to run a long way with the ball but his shot was well off target.

Redbridge ended the half well as Stevenson and Asare both crossed into the box but both times Tommie Turner at the far post was just unable to connect when a touch was all that was needed to surely score.

Into the second half and Poku found himself running in on goal but made the wrong decision as he unselfishly crossed searching for Stevenson when we should have gone alone and shot.

Big scare for the home side when Cox tried to place a shot into the far corner and although Greene was beaten he had the post to thank as the ball smashed against it and rebounded away to safety.

A good passage of play followed for Redbridge as Stevenson saw his free kick parried out by Marsh before finally ending up at the feet of Poku who did well to dig out the shot which was well saved.

The only goal of the game came after 64 minutes when a smart cross from Robert Hodgson was met by Scarborough at the far post and his headed crept in via the upright to put the league leaders ahead .

Robert Hodgson cross met at far post by Scarborough who headed went in via post

Redbridge continued to push forward searching for the equaliser with the closest they come being an Asare shot which could only find the side netting as the whistle blew giving Hullbridge a tough battling victory and although it was not a pretty win they will care none the less whilst although the home side put in a much improved display unfortunately it ended with nothing to show.
