Welcome Three Points For Takeley

Welcome Three Points For Takeley

Adam Silver11 Oct 2018 - 19:37

Redbridge got a much needed three points as they beat Takeley 3-0 thanks to a brace from Calvin Poku and a Jack Stevenson goal.

The Motormen travelled to Takeley looking to put an end to their poor recent form which had seen them lost their last four matches.

It was however the home side who came out the quickest of the two teams and from a corner they went close to opening the scoring however the ball drifted just wide of the upright.

The first chance for Redbridge came through Jack Stevenson as he cut inside from a wide position but his shot lacked intensity and was easily gathered by Ronald Yates.

Takeley then had a chance when ex Motorman Mitchell Das saw his looping header nearly catch out Lewis Greene before George Wappitt saw his shot creep wide.

The away side then had their best spell of the game which resulted in Calvin Poku seeing his shot from close range well saved before Bryan Kyungu fired the rebound over.

Takeley came forward with a nice passage of passing play which ended with Jason Todd shooting straight into the arms of Greene.

Both sides continued to attack with Das firing a cross into the box which was cut out by Greene before at the other end Tyrone Scarlett put in a teasing cross which just evaded Poku before Larry Asare got a shot in from a wide angle which was well blocked just as the half time whistle was blown.

As the second period began Redbridge started strong as a nice move saw Kyungu spread the ball out to the onrushing Marcus Carter who continued his run before unleashing a shot which was not far wide.

From the resulting goal kick Ronnie Yates played the ball out but without looking up he only proceeded in passing directly to Redbridge striker Calvin Poku who had the simple task of finding the back of the net with the keeper out of position.

The away side were now in the mood and attacked through Asare who did well to win a corner, Stevenson whipped the ball in finding the head of Poku who got in front of his marker and made no mistake from close range to grab his and Redbridge’s 2nd goal.

Just two minutes later and things got even better for Redbridge when Poku returned the favour playing in a cross which Stevenson got a touch to and flicked the ball into the corner of the net to extend the advantage and complete a superb seven minute spell, it must have been one hell of a team talk.

Takeley were certainly rattled and Stevenson went close to a fourth as his free kick only just dropped wide of the post.

Redbridge made a treble substitution as they looked to see the match out and stood firm as Takeley tried to get back into the game. Substitute Josh Coulson should have done better with a header from fellow sub Tommie Turner before “9” fired over at the other end after a good run by Wappett.

Wappett was proving to be the most dangerous for Takeley and it was he whom tested Greene from distance who got down well to palm the ball away for a corner before Stuart Zanone got into a good position and although he managed to round Greene there were enough bodies back to clear the danger.

The final effort came for the home side as Carter lost possession allowing substitute Coby Miles in on goal but he shot over to put an end to a miserable night for the hosts.
