Points Dropped at Leyton

Adam Silver15 Nov 2018 - 21:54

Redbridge conceded a two goal lead as they drew 2-2 away at Leyton, our goals coming from Larry Asare and Patrick Duggan.

Leyton hosted Redbridge as both sides were looking for points to climb away from the lower reaches of the ESL table.

The home side started the more lively forcing an early corner which was swung in finding Daniel Londono who connected well but shot over the bar.

Redbridge then came forward as Calvin Poku found himself bearing down on goal but just as he was about to let fly in came a Leyton defender who managed to get across and and make the bloc. A powerful run by Larry Asare then saw him head towards goal but his fierce effort flew wide of the upright.

Redbridge broke the deadlock after 16 minutes when Vinny Murphy put over a teasing cross which Asare ran onto unmarked at the far post to rifle home.

One goal soon became two when Jack Stevenson laid the ball off to Patrick Duggan and from full 25 yards out he unleashed a thunderbolt of an efffort which left James Scammell in goal no chance.

Leyton then had a couple of opportunities themselves but stand in Redbridge keeper Chico Ramos was proving difficult to beat however he was given no chance when a defensive error by DJ Adelekan gifted the ball to Francesco Ciccone who kept his composure and calmly slotted home to reduce the deficit.

The final chance of the half fell to Stevenson who found himself in space but his powerful drive was too close to Scammell who made the save.

Redbridge had an early chance to extend their lead in the second period when Scammell's poor clearance only proceeded to find Poku who crossed into the middle but the ball was headed out for a corner.

Stevenson then tried his luck with a curling effort which was well saved tipped behind for a corner before Leyton came up the other end almost grabbing an equaliser when Cicconi saw his angled header well saved by Ramos who needed to be at full strength.

Further chances came and went for Leyton as Redbridge had Ramos to thank on several occasions who was keeping his side ahead.

They did however soon draw level when substitute Mario Gjini tried a shot which took a massive deflection leaving Ramos rooted to the spot and into the back of the net.

The game was now evenly balanced and had the feeling it could go either way. Leyton hit the outside of a post before Murphy almost caught Scammell off guard with a free kick at his near post.

Leyton once again were denied by Ramos who made some important stops before the away side thought they had won the game when in the final minute Stevenson played a ball into the middle finding Asare all alone just needing the slightest of touches however he somehow proceeded to blast over much to the amazement of everyone in the ground.

With that the full time whistle was blown and once again Redbridge will feel it was two points dropped as Leyton will be pleased with the way they fought back.
