Beaten at Sawbridgeworth

Redbridge were beaten 3-1 at Sawbridgeworth Town, our goal coming through Remi Nelson.

Redbridge travelled to Sawbridgeworth Town on the back of a three match unbeaten league run , their best of the season thus far, Lewis Greene was back between the sticks whilst striker Vdadut Sighiartau was making his debut.

The Motormen started the game strongly and had an early chance when Sighiartau crossed for his striking partner Michael Ogboin who saw his header well saved by Jarvis Monk in goal.

The away side continued to apply the pressure with Larry Asare seeing his shot blocked before Monk once again had to be alert this time tipping over a Vinny Murpy free kick leading to a corner.

Liam Burgess swung the corner in finding Remi Nelson who met the ball with a header which was pushed out for yet another corner and this time in a carbon copy of the first Neson made no mistake powerfully heading past Monk to put his side deservedly in front.

Sawbridgeworth finally showed their first attacking intention as a free kick was whipped into the box but eventually drifted out for a goal kick.

Back came Redbridge as Samuel Phillips laid the ball into the path of Burgess who let fly from distance but his shot was just over the bar. A lovely piece of passing play followed when Ogboin and Phillips combined well to then find Sighiartau who tried to lift his shot over Monk but the young keeper showed good reactions to make the save.

Against the run of play the home side then scored an equaliser when ex Motorman Lindisipho Mtyanda found space on the left wing and floated in a cross to the far post finding Joe Wright unmarked and he had the simple task of steering his header past Greene.

As the half drew to a close both sides had chances to take the lead but went in at the break on level terms mainly thanks to the fine keeping on display by Monk.

Sawbridgeworth had the first chance of the second half when defender Louis Monk came forward before firing in a shot which was saved before they turned things around and took the lead when a poor defensive error by Remi Nelson presented the ball to Mtyanda and he ran through one on one before rounding Greene and firing into the empty net before any Redbridge defenders could get back in time.

The home side now had the momentum and almost immediately scored a third but wasted the chance before a free kick from Tom Jelliman just skimmed the top of the crossbar.

Redbridge substitute Jack Stevenson then had an effort which flew wide before Phillips tried to pass the ball into the corner of the net but the shot lacked any real power and was easily gathered by Monk.

Stevenson was then appeared to be pushed to the ground in the box however the referee waved away any appeals much to the amazement of most within the ground,

Redbridge then had their turn to hit the woodwork as Ogboin met a corner with smashed against the bar and away to safety.

Another substitute in Tommie Turner then shot wide as Redbridge tried desperately to get back into the game and in doing so left spaces at the back which Sawbridgeworth took advantage of as Wright ran onto a through ball and proceeded to lob Greene and grab his second of the match,

Into the final stages and it was the home side more likely to get another goal and spurned a great opportunity when Louis Monk fired over with just Greene to beat but they had already done enough to secure the win and three points.
